T20 World Cup 2021: In an important development in the Indian squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Shardul Thakur has been drafted into India’s main squad replacing Axar Patel, confirmed BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Wednesday.
Thakur, who was initially named as one of the three stands by players for the World Cup, has impressed everyone with his bowling skills in the ongoing Vivo IPL 2021. The bowling all-rounder has picked up 18 wickets in 15 appearances, which prompted the selectors to have a go at him in place of Axar.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee after a discussion with the team management has added Shardul Thakur to the main squad. All-rounder Axar Patel, who was part of the 15-member squad will now be on the list of stand-by players,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said.
Mr Shah also confirmed that Harshal Patel, Lukman Meriwala, Venkatesh Iyer along with several other players will join the Indian squad to assist the team in their preparations. It is noteworthy that these players have impressed everyone with their performances in the ongoing Indian Premier League.
The following cricketers will join the team bubble in Dubai and assist Team India in their preparations: Lukman Meriwala, Avesh Khan, Umran Malik, Shahbaz Ahmed, Harshal Patel, Venkatesh Iyer, Karn Sharma, K. Gowtham,” the statement said.
