Rohit Sharma Loses Top ODI Batting Rank as New Zealand Batter Claims Number One Spot | Updated ICC Player Rankings

India's former captain Rohit Sharma's time as the number one ranked One-Day International batter has come to an end as New Zealand's hard-hitting batsman Daryl Mitchell dethroned him at the top of ICC's ODI Player Rankings thanks to his excellent ton versus the West Indies in the second odi.

The 34-year-old slammed his 7th ODI ton during the first-match of the three-game One Day International series between the Blackcaps and the Windies and that ton proved to be more than enough for the right-handed batter to usurp Rohit from the pole position of the batting player rankings and claim the prestigious spot for the maiden time in his International career.

This means that Daryl has become just the 2nd Kiwi player to hold the top-rankings in the ODI Batting charts, joining the legendary Glenn Turner who held the spot back in 1976.

Fellow New Zealand batsmen Andrew Jones, Nathan Astle, Ross Taylor, Martin Crowe, Kane Williamson, Roger Twose & Martin Guptill made their way in the top 5 of the One-Day International batting rankings in their paramount careers, but only Glenn and now Daryl Mitchell are two players of New Zealand to hold the number one rank.

The latest update of the ICC ODI Player Rankings also saw Pakistani players benefit following the conclusion of their 50-over series versus Sri Lanka, with hard hitting batter Fakhar Zaman rising to the 26th rank from the 31st spot while wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan also rose to the 22nd position from the 27th rank in the ODI rankings of batters.

The Shaheens whitewashed Sri Lanka 3-0 in the recently conlcuded ODI series and the impressive performances of players in this bilateral event has seen the bowlers of Pakistan benefit as well. Leggie Abrar Ahmed entered the top 10 as he secured the ninth position by getting a gain of 11 spots and his fellow countryman Haris Rauf also moved up to the 24th position. Rashid Khan continues to rule the ODI Rankings of bowlers.

Following the conclusion of the first Test between South Africa and India in Kolkata, a number of players from both teams rose in the most recent Test rankings. Temba Bavuma, the captain of the reigning WTC Champions, who played an incredible unbeaten innings of 55 runs in the 2nd innings of the Kolkata Test-Match, entered the top 5 of the Test batting rankings for the maiden time in his cricket career.

After taking six wickets in the first Test at Eden Gardens, India quick Jasprit Bumrah maintains his position as the leading Test bowler, while counterparts Kuldeep Yadav (up two spaces to a lifetime-best 13th) and Ravindra Jadeja (up four places to 15th) are among the players to make some progress.

Following respectable hauls against India, South Africa's Marco Jansen (up one position to 11th) and Simon Harmer (up 20 places to 24th) both climb up the list of Test bowlers. Jansen moves up one spot to fifth on the most recent rankings for Test all-rounders.

With Tim Robinson moving up eight spots to 15th and Devon Conway moving up seven spots to tie for 48th on the updated list for T20I batters, as well as left-handed bowler Jacob Duffy moving up one spot to second on the most recent rankings for T20I bowlers, New Zealand is even more pleased with the most recent twenty-over rankings.

Following the opening day of their home 3-match series against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, Pakistani players also made some progress in the most recent Twenty-20 International rankings. Mohammad Nawaz was awarded for his Player of the encounter efforts in the first encounter against Zimbabwe.

After producing an uncontested 21 and two wickets in a first-up triumph against Zimbabwe in Rawalpindi, Nawaz moves up two spots to eighth overall on the list for twenty-over all-rounders and up four spots to 27th for 20-over bowlers.
