Ravi Shastri not happy with CSK appointing Ravindra Jadeja as skipper in the IPL 2022: Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri is quite unhappy with Chennai Super Kings (CSK’s) move of appointing premier all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as the captain of the side. Shastri reckons that a player like Jadeja should be set free to play his natural game and that’s when he becomes extremely dangerous for the opposition.

Four times Indian Premier League (IPL) champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), have begun their ongoing Tata IPL 2022 campaign with four straight losses. The franchise is enduring a torrid time with all their departments misfiring. CSK are languishing at the bottom of the rankers table following their four defeats on the trot in the Tata IPL 2022.

MS Dhoni, the former CSK skipper, prior to the start of the Tata IPL 2022, decided to relinquish his leadership role, thereby playing as a proper glovesman on the side. Though Dhoni was anticipated to quite his T20 captaincy in 2022, however, no one had ever expected it to happen this way.

Ravi Shastri in a conversation with ESPNcricinfo said that if MS Dhoni didn’t want to continue as the leader of the side, then the franchise should have retained the likes of Faf du Plessis ahead of the player auction, who is an acclaimed leader.

“I believe, a player like Jadeja should focus on his cricket. If Chennai think about it again, they should have not let Faf du Plessis go because he is a match winner and played a lot. If Dhoni didn’t want to captain the side, then Faf should have become the captain and Jadeja should have played as a player. Because he (Jadeja) can then play freely, no pressure of captaincy,” Shastri said on ESPNcricinfo show ‘T20 Time Out’.

He further added that had CSK set Ravindra Jadeja free, things could have been different for the yellow brigade.

“Things could have been different for Chennai,” he added.

CSK’s core group misfiring in IPL 2022:

Notably, Chennai Super Kings’ strategy to retain their core hasn’t worked out in the ongoing edition of the IPL. None of their assets have given signs of encouragement.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, who won the Orange Cap previously, is out of his touch and has been performing woefully. Even the skipper himself, Ravindra Jadeja seems to be under pressure and hasn’t been able to unleash his best owing to the added captaincy onus.

Moreover, to add more to their woes, CSK’s INR 14 Crores pick during the auction, Deepak Chahar isn’t available following his right quadriceps injury. The right-arm seamer is currently undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Meanwhile, CSK’s latest recruit Shivam Dube has been performing for his team of late. Dube is the top scorer for CSK with 112 runs in four matches followed by opener batter Robin Uthappa (106 runs).

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will lock horns against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in its next encounter. It will be important for the yellow army to bring up their maiden victory of the season if they want to remain in the playoffs race.
