Punjab Kings quashes rumours of sacking Mayank Agarwal as PBKS skipper in IPL 2023: In the recent turn of events, Punjab Kings (PBKS) have officially come out in defence as they rejected all the rumours floating in the market around the team captaincy for the next IPL season. The franchise openly asserted that none of the officials have made any statement regarding the captaincy of the team.
In the past few weeks, Punjab Kings (PBKS) has made it to the headlines for varied reasons. First, there were rumours that the franchise is unhappy with skipper Mayank Agarwal and wants to sack him from the role. Later it was reported that Eoin Morgan, former England white-ball skipper, could possibly join the franchise in the head coach’s capacity.
The reports indicated that the current head coach, Anil Kumble is not satisfied with how the team is functioning and wanted to step out from his role.
Meanwhile, looking at the intensity of the rumours and the aftereffects of it, Punjab Kings decided to quash the rumours by releasing an official statement.
“News reports published by a certain sports News website pertaining to captaincy of the Punjab Kings franchise has been making the rounds in the last few days. We would like to state that no official of the team has issued any statement on the same,” wrote Punjab Kings (PBKS).
Punjab Kings skipper Mayank Agarwal has also sent a strong statement to the critics by plundering a massive century in the ongoing Maharaja Trophy. He scored 112 runs off 61 deliveries for his team, Bangalore Blasters.
Notably, PBKS appointed Mayank Agarwal as the leader of the group in the Tata IPL 2022, after then skipper KL Rahul decided to part ways with the team. Agarwal led his troops quite decently at the starting, however, things began deteriorating as the business end of the tournament approached. Punjab once again failed to qualify for the playoffs, even though they performed superbly at the start of the tournament.
