IPL 2022 Mega Auction: Punjab Kings (PBKS) list of players retained and released in IPL 2022

Punjab Kings (PBKS) list of players retained and released in IPL 2022: It’s been a while since the completion of the fourteenth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in Dubai, however, the buzz around social media hasn’t stopped yet. With BCCI taking crucial steps to elate IPL fans during off-seasons as well, the upcoming auction strategy and player retention has brought the cricket fans back under a roof to contemplate the probable retentions of the IPL teams.

Punjab Kings (PBKS), one of the franchises that are yet to lift its maiden IPL title, has a lot of homework to do before they appear in the upcoming IPL 2022 mega auction. Building a strong core and a formidable team that can serve the franchise for the coming few years will be their foremost purpose this time during the auction.

A few weeks earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the rules for player retention for the coming seasons, according to which each existing franchise can only retain a maximum of four players from their previous squad.

To add to the rule, each franchise is only entitled to retain not more than three domestic cricketers and not more than two overseas cricket and their overall tally of retained players should not exceed four.

The IPL 2022 Mega Auction is likely to be held during late December 2021 or early January 2022. Though the exact dates are not yet revealed by the BCCI.

This article will take you through the Punjab Kings (PBKS) list of players retained and released in IPL 2022.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) Retained Player:

The major setback for Punjab Kings (PBKS) is uncertainty over the retention of their skipper KL Rahul. Though it hasn’t been official, Rahul has, at times, expressed his intentions to move out of the franchise.

Commenting on the same, PBKS co-owner Ness Wadia said, “There are many players apart from KL Rahul, firstly. One player does not make up a team, I’ve always said that. Any team that hinges too much on one player, that does prove beyond a point liability”.

If PBKS skipper KL Rahul and the franchise would be on the same page, he would have been the first choice retention, however, the possibility is far.

With KL Rahul’s exclusion from the franchise, the retention gets a wee bit tricky for PBKS. The franchise still has a few players to retain, but are they willing to pay such a huge amount on them is a big question.
