PCB Protest ICC Over Pakistan Captain Snub in T20 World Cup 2026 Poster

PCB has objected to ICC after Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha was left out of the T20 World Cup 2026 ticket poster, triggering a fresh controversy.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has formally raised objections with the International Cricket Council (ICC) after noticing the absence of Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha from the official T20 World Cup 2026 ticket sales poster.

The omission has sparked concern within the PCB, which believes the move undermines Pakistan’s stature and leadership representation at one of cricket’s biggest global events.

PCB Voices Strong Displeasure

According to a reliable PCB source, the ICC’s recently released promotional poster featured images of only five captains from participating nations—Suryakumar Yadav (India), Aiden Markram (South Africa), Mitchell Marsh (Australia), Dasun Shanaka (Sri Lanka), and Harry Brook (England). Notably missing was Pakistan’s skipper Salman Ali Agha, a decision that did not sit well with the PCB hierarchy.

The source revealed that the board has officially communicated its displeasure to the ICC, emphasizing that Pakistan, as one of the sport’s most followed cricketing nations, deserves equal representation in promotional material for marquee tournaments like the T20 World Cup.

A Repeated Pattern for Pakistan

This is not the first time Pakistan has faced such an issue. A similar situation reportedly occurred during the Asia Cup, when early promotional campaigns did not feature the Pakistan captain.

At that time, the matter was taken up with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), after which corrective steps were taken.

“We faced the same issue when the Asia Cup was held a few months back. The broadcasters had started a promotional campaign without our captain featuring in it,” a PCB source was quoted as saying.

The source added that only after PCB’s intervention did the ACC ensure Pakistan’s captain was included. Now, the board is pursuing a similar course of action with the ICC regarding the T20 World Cup 2026 promotions.

Representation Matters, Says PCB

While Pakistan is currently not placed among the top five teams in the ICC Men’s T20I rankings, the PCB insists that rankings alone should not determine visibility in global marketing campaigns. Pakistan remains one of the most passionate cricket-following nations, with massive fan engagement across continents.

From packed stadiums to record-breaking TV viewership, Pakistan’s presence significantly boosts the commercial and emotional appeal of ICC tournaments. The PCB believes that excluding the national captain from such high-profile promotional material sends the wrong message to fans and stakeholders.

Hope for ICC Course Correction

The PCB remains optimistic that the ICC will address the concern and update its promotional material to include Salman Ali Agha. With ticket sales and global marketing playing a crucial role in the success of the T20 World Cup 2026, inclusive representation of all major cricketing nations is seen as essential.

As preparations for the mega event gather pace, the spotlight is now on the ICC to see whether it will respond positively to PCB’s concerns and ensure Pakistan’s leadership gets the visibility it believes it deserves.
