PBKS to get new head coach in IPL 2023 as Anil Kumble’s contract comes to an end: Reports: Punjab Kings (PBKS) is now all set to get a fresh head coach in their coaching setup in the coming season of the IPL as the stakeholders have zeroed on to not renewing incumbent Anil Kumble’s contract.

As per the report published on ESPNcricinfo, the board comprising Preity Zinta, Ness Wadia, Mohit Burman, Karan Paul and team CEO Satish Menon have taken the decision to relieve former Indian spinner, Anil Kumble of his duties for Punjab Kings.

The announcement on the same is likely to happen soon.

Anil Kumble’s coaching stint with Punjab Kings hasn’t been fruitful if we look at the overall stats of the franchise. He was appointed PBKS’ coach ahead of the IPL 2020 and since then the franchise has remained in the bottom half of the points table at the end of each season.

Moreover in 42 matches played under him, Punjab has failed to secure a win percentage of at least 50 per cent. Out of 42 matches played, PBKS has only won 18 and lost 22.

Importantly, despite acquiring several star players during the IPL 2022 mega auction, Punjab Kings failed to fetch promising results. Mayank Agarwal-led PBKS ended in the sixth position in the recently held Tata IPL 2022.

The main concern with Punjab Kings is their consistency in winning multiple matches. In the recently held IPL season, PBKS failed to win two games on the trot. It became their custom to lose a game after winning one.

Nevertheless, the new IPL season will bring new opportunities for the team to rise and tackle ghosts of the past. It will be interesting to see who gets the coaching duties for the team.

Meanwhile, PBKS has rubbished all the reports that speculated that the franchise is mulling changing the captaincy.

“News reports published by a certain sports News website pertaining to captaincy of the Punjab Kings franchise has been making the rounds in the last few days. We would like to state that no official of the team has issued any statement on the same,” wrote PBKS.
