Pakistan's 18-Member Squad against New Zealand (Expected) | Pakistan vs New Zealand T20I Series

Pakistan vs New Zealand T20I Series: In the next few days, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to announce Pakistan’s squad for the five-match T20 international series against New Zealand, according to Geo News. The Pakistan National Squad is currently taking part in a military training camp with the Pakistan Military in Abbottabad’s Kakul and the consultation process of finalizing the squad has begun. Captain Babar Azam and the national selectors are handling the consultation process

Earlier, the selectors and skipper Babar Azam held a meeting with Mohsin Naqvi – chairman of the PCB for the squad finalization process.

According to some news reports, since the series against New Zealand is going to be a home series for the Shaheens, a squad of 18 members is anticipated to be announced.

Pacer Haris Rauf suffered a shoulder injury in the recently concluded PSL 2024 and he has not been declared completely fit and is expected to continue with his rehabilitation. Meaning, the 30 year old will not play any part in the five-match series against New Zealand.

Babar Azam (Captain), Mohammad Rizwan, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Sahibzada Farhan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Azam Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Usama Mir, Imad Wasim, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Amir, Usman Khan, Zaman Khan, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Abbas Afridi and Irfan Niazi are the players that are being considered for the five match series against New Zealand.

Fakhar Zaman recently suffered a hand injury so his fitness is being assessed as well.

According to some news reports, former skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi may miss some matches in the T20 International series against New Zealand, keeping in mind the workload policy of the PCB, which aims to reduce the workload of Pakistan’s main seamers. Consultations are ongoing to protect the main fast bowlers from unnecessary burden on their bodies and provide a chance to the youngsters to shine

On the contrary, the seamers who are making their comebacks in the national squad have higher chances of featuring in Pakistan’s squad for the New Zealand series.

The Kiwis and the Shaheens will be playing the first three T20 international games at Rawalpindi’s Pindi Cricket Stadium on 18th, 20th and 21st April. Then both the teams will travel to Lahore, where the remaining two T20i’s will be played on April 25th and 27th April.
