Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday (31st March) surprised many when they reappointed Babar Azam as the captain of the white-ball team. The senior batter will be replacing Shaheen Afridi, who was appointed as the T20I captain.

This came as a huge surprise for everyone because Babar Azam was removed as the captain of the team after the ICC World Cup 2023. The right-hander came under a lot of scrutiny for his poor captaincy and following that he was removed as the leader of the team.

In his place, Shaheen Afridi was appointed as the T20I skipper and Shan Masood was given the red-ball captaincy. But that didn’t work as under Shaheen Pakistan lost the T20I series against New Zealand by the margin of 4-1 and suffered a 3-0 thrashing in Tests against Australia

Shaheen Afridi’s leadership came under scanner after that but not many expected PCB to remove him. Ever since new chairman Mohsin Naqvi has taken charge, he has expressed his desire to see Babar Azam leading the team yet again.

There were a few reports earlier on that suggested the same but now all that has come true as well. Since the last few weeks, there has been a lot happening in Pakistan cricket apart from the leadership change that took as well. The premier batter now would be keen to take team to glory and make most of his second stint as the captain of the team.

Recently Imad Wasim and Mohammad Aamir took back his retirement and made themselves available for the T20 World Cup 2024. This could well be a hint that the duo will be in the mix for the World Cup and will be playing under the leadership of Babar Azam. The tournament will be played in USA and Carribean in the month of June.
