After the Asia Cup 2025 Failure, As per the reports, Pakistan’s T20I captain Salman Ali Agha will be sacked from the position and vice-captain Shadab Khan is expected to lead the side in the shorter format. The board is planning to change leadership ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 which is set to start in February 2026.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to sack Salman Ali Agha from the T20I captaincy after the team's poor performance, particularly the three consecutive losses against India in the Asia Cup 2025 in just 15 days. Pakistan lost the Asia Cup Final game against India by 5 wickets at Dubai International Stadium.
Who will replace Salman Ali Agha as Pakistan T20I Team Captain?
As per the report from PTI, Shadab Khan, who has been the vice-captain of the Pakistan National Cricket Team in the T20I Cricket, is likely to replace Salman Ali Agha as the Captain of the Pakistan T20I Team. As of now, Shadab is under the rehabilitation progran and expected to join the team next month to lead the team.
Shadab Khan has played lots of T20 cricket and also led Islamabad United in the Pakisatn Super League (PSL). Salman ALi Agha wasn’t in good form for a couple of months, and PCB is looking ofr some reliable, consistent and long-term captain for the T20I Team.
As per the reports, Shadab Khan is set to return to the squad in the upcoming bilateral home series against Sri Lanka between November 11-13, 2025. Shadab is recovering from the shoulder injury and he is under rehabilation, would return to action in the upcoming month.

Salman Ali Agha’s time as captain is expected to end, his future as a player remains uncertain after having a disaster performance in the Asia Cup 2025. Players like Sahibzada Farhan and Hussain Talat are rising talents and their chances are high to remain in the squad for the T20 World Cup 2026.
However, Salman Ali Agha needs to show strong performance in the domestic cricket or other formats for the team to remain in the contention for selection.
