Most Expensive Player of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction

Mumbai Indians (MI) wish to pick Shreyas Iyer at IPL 2022 Mega Auction: Reports.

IPL 2022: The preparations for the next season of the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) are underway with franchises brainstorming over their top-four retentions. The month-long retentions of the IPL 2022 will come to an end on 30th November. The BCCI has entitled all the franchises to pick four players from their previous squad during the retention.

Besides the process of retentions, IPL franchises would be contemplating over players on whom they would be interested in at the auctions. It has been reported that Delhi Capitals (DC) is not considering Shreyas Iyer as a retention material, hence forcing him to head to the auctions.

Delhi’s retention list consists of wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, the skipper of the side, young batsman Prithvi Shaw, spinner Axar Patel and South African pace gun Anrich Nortje.

If the reports are to be believed, five times IPL champions, Mumbai Indians (MI) are keen on acquiring Shreyas Iyer during the IPL 2022 Mega Auctions. The franchise believes in investing more towards the domestic players rather than the overseas stars.

“While Mumbai Indians are also reportedly interested in picking Shreyas at the auction, at least one other existing franchise too want him since he is being seen as captaincy material,” read the report of Telegraph.

Iyer was earlier reported to have expressed his ambition to lead an IPL side. He was the skipper of Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2021, however, an unfortunate injury to him snatched his role. Rishabh Pant was appointed leader of DC in Iyer’s absence and he completed the job pretty well.

Under Pant, Delhi reached the playoffs where they played the second eliminator against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The think tanks of Delhi Capitals (DC) are now more inclined towards the services of Rishabh Pant as a skipper.

The of the two new IPL franchises have also shown interest in taking Shreyas Iyer’s services. However, it remains to be seen whether they give him the leadership role or not. If Iyer enters the auction, he will surely set the hammer on fire putting several franchises in a bidding war.
