Mumbai Indians announce Riley Meredith as replacement for Jhye Richardson: On Thursday, the Mumbai Indians announced that Riley Meredith, an Australian pacer, to replace Jhye Richardson. Due to a hamstring injury, Richardson was forced to withdraw from the current season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

He joins Mumbai for a sum of INR 1.5 crore. Meredith was there with Mumbai during the previous season when he was signed in for his base price of INR 1 crore. He participated in eight games, taking eight wickets at an 8.42 economy rate as Mumbai ended last in the points table. Prior to this season’s auction in 2022, he was released. Meredith had also featured in 2021’s Punjab Kings.

Mumbai Indians announced his inclusion to the squad via a Media Advisory quoting “Riley Meredith, who was part of the #OneFamily in 2022 returns home to Mumbai Indians, as a replacement for Jhye Richardson.”

“The right-arm fast bowler, who played 8 games for Mumbai Indians in 2022, picking up 8 wickets in his maiden season with the team. Riley will join the squad ahead of Mumbai Indians’ next game vs Chennai Super Kings,” they concluded.

They also tweeted the announcement “We are 𝐑𝐈𝐋𝐄𝐘 excited to announce the return of Australian quickster, 𝐌𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐓𝐇 to #MumbaiIndians.”

In regard to recent BBL statistics, he was the joint fifth-highest wicket-taker with 21 wickets from 14 games. He has participated in 77 T20 matches overall, including five international matches for Australia, taking 100 wickets at an economy rate of 8.33 per over.

As it has been a tradition now that MI have lost their first match in every season since 2012. Mumbai was once again humiliated by Royal Challengers Bangalore to begin the 2023 IPL. Once Jasprit Bumrah and Richardson sustained injuries, their pace arsenal was considerably degraded. Riley Meredith will join the franchise’s other international seam bowling options, Jofra Archer, Jason Behrendorff, Duan Jansen, and Cameron Green.
