Morne Morkel to be Pakistan's Bowling Coach: Reports

Morne Morkel to be Pakistan’s Bowling Coach: After a satisfactory tenure of Shaun Tait as the bowling coach of the Pakistan Cricket Team, the PCB is about to appoint the Proteas pacer Morne Morkel as Pakistan’s bowling coach for the upcoming year.

According to rumors, Mickey Arthur, the former head coach of Pakistaan’s men’s cricket team, will shortly be named a consultant team director by the PCB. In January, PCB Chairman Najam Sethi offered the idea that Arthur may work as a consultant for the national team again.

Along with Morkel and Arthur, another recruitment to be made is Andrew Puttick as batting coach. The coaching group is set up so that Arthur may function as the team director from a distance(online coach). He was also given the task of establishing the coaching panel, which mainly consists of overseas personnel. Grant Bradburn, a former fielding coach for Pakistan, will serve as the head coach, and Cliffe Deacon and Drikus Saaiman will keep their positions as physiotherapist and strength & conditioning coach, respectively.

Before the home series against New Zealand, certain international coaches are anticipated to join the Pakistani team, according to Cricket Pakistan. From April 14 to May 7, the Kiwis will play five T20Is and five ODIs in Pakistan. According to the reports, Mickey Arthur would spend a little bit of time in Pakistan before heading back to Derbyshire to resume his duties as head coach.

Morkel, on the other hand, will not be a part of the training staff for the series against New Zealand because of his engagement in the Indian Premier League. He served as a member of the Namibia coaching staff at the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, and he is now the bowling coach for Durban’s Super Giants throughout the SA20 League. He also appeared in the New Zealand women’s squad at the T20 World Cup in South Africa.

Next month, 42-year-old Puttick will join the Pakistani team. His sole international performance was for South Africa in 2005, and since then he has served as a batting consultant for that country. He most recently served as the batting coach for the South Africa women’s squad at the T20 World Cup. He previously worked as an assistant coach for South Africa A’s 2019 tour of India and with the rising side. Playing for Western Province and Cape Cobras, he concluded his domestic career with more than 18000 domestic runs.

According to sources in the Pakistani media, the PCB has reportedly almost finalized the specifics regarding the coaching staff, and a formal announcement on the subject is expected shortly.
