KKR’s Shreyas Iyer reveals his favourite batting position ahead of the IPL 2022: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) new skipper Shreyas Iyer has revealed his favourite batting position, however, the cricketer said he is unrestricted to taking up any responsibility that arises in future. Iyer has been in a fantastic form of late. During the recently concluded series against Sri Lanka, Shreyas played astonishing cricket and scored three consecutive half-centuries in the T20I series. He carried his form onto the test and played match-winning knocks for team India.

Shreyas Iyer was associated with Delhi Capitals (DC) in the last three editions of the tournament and he did more than he could have ever done for the franchise. Under his leadership, the actual transformation of Delhi began. He took DC to the playoffs two times and scored a lot of runs for his team.

Unfortunately, Delhi decided to release him ahead of the mega auction and the cricketer got eventually picked by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for INR 12.25 Crores.

In a video posted in KKR’s YouTube channel, Shreyas Iyer reckons that players have to show different personalities according to the team’s requirements. He said on a given day, he can play a power-hitters role while the other batter can anchor the innings.

“You can’t basically portray yourself as an anchor. It can differ as well. On a given day, I can be a power-hitter and there can be some other player who can play an anchor role. The situations and roles can change based on conditions, and you can’t basically rely on a certain player to anchor the innings. If it’s your day, you need to go all out and see to it that you win the match for the team,” Iyer told in a video posted by KKR’s YouTube Channel.

I love to play at number three: Shreyas Iyer

The dashing cricketer further mentioned that he loves to bat at number three, where he batted during the recent India vs Sri Lanka T20I series but is open to shuffling his batting position according to the needs and requirements.

“Basically, the responsibility has to be taken by all players in the team — to go out there and win the match and not rely on other players. For me, personally, I feel No.3 is my position because I love to bat there and I’ve been batting at that position since very long. I’ve been very flexible; wherever the team wants me to bat at, I’m very comfortable at that and I’m ready to explore,” he added.

Kolkata is placed in Group A of the Tata IPL 2022 alongside Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants and Rajasthan Royals. The King Khan co-owned franchise will play its opening game against defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 26 in Wankhede Stadium.
