IPL 2024: Shubman Gill to lead Gujarat Titans (GT) after Hardik Pandya's trade to Mumbai Indians (MI) confirmed
IPL 2024: Shubman Gill to lead Gujarat Titans (GT): Gujarat Titans (GT) are all set to transfer the highest-order roles and responsibilities to young Shubman Gill after their skipper parted ways with the team ahead of the IPL 2024 Auction. The development surfaced on the internet late on Sunday after the IPL 2024 player retentions were completed.
The sources have confirmed that Gujarat Titans (GT) had a long meeting with Shubman Gill about his new roles and responsibilities in the team. Also, the franchise discussed its auction strategy with him.
Notably, all-rounder Hardik Pandya's trade deal was confirmed after the player retentions were completed. Although Gujarat had retained Hardik as their captain, it was learnt that Mumbai and Gujarat were working on modalities to finalise the trade.
Later in the day, it was confirmed that Hardik Pandya will move to his alma mater in the IPL 2024. The franchise in Blue and Gold reportedly shelled out INR 15 Crores to work out a deal to fetch Hardik back into their side. Mumbai Indians will have to pay a hefty transfer fee for the trade as well.
It's interesting to note that Mumbai Indians (MI) released Jofra Archer to the auction pool to afford Hardik Pandya. Also the franchise traded Australian all-rounder Cameron Green to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in a complete cash deal.
Green was bagged by Mumbai Indians (MI) by spending a whopping 17.5 crores during the IPL 2022 Auction. His trade to RCB would free up the sum, which can be used by MI in the IPL 2024 Auction, which is set to be held on December 19 in Dubai.
The player trade window for the IPL will be open until a week prior to the IPL 2024 Auction. The franchises can make their trades in due time by their own understanding.
