IPL 2023: Mumbai Indians is among the two franchises in the league, that are yet to register a win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. They didn’t look good in the two games they played as they struggled to get going and faced two thumping defeats. Despite having a good-looking squad, things aren’t going their way. It’s fair to say that they have looked ordinary on the field and have failed to step on the crunch situations. With the bat, they have failed to set the stage on fire and haven’t been able to execute their plans with the ball as well.

IPL 2023: Mumbai Indians are traditionally slow starters in the league. But there might be a sense of tension in their squad after the two losses. Although they lost just two games they would want to turn things around in their next game against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Tuesday (11th April) and for that, they might need to take some tactical calls. In this piece we will take a look at two of them:

1. Open the innings with Cameron Green and play Ishan Kishan at No.4

Ishan Kishan hasn’t looked good opening the batting for Mumbai Indians. The keeper batter struggles against the moving ball and plays quite a few dot balls at the top, which puts more pressure on Rohit Sharma, who is also not in the greatest of touch. The team management should look to push down Kishan to No.4.

He was at his best when he batted in the middle in IPL 2020. In his place team should look to push Cameron Green at the top along with skipper Rohit. Green at the top can not only help Mumbai take full advantage of the power play but will also give time to Rohit to settle and play a long inning. The Australian opener has proved his prowess as an opener when he batted at the top in the T20I series against India

2. Play Shams Mulani in place of Hrithik Shokeen

The role of Hrithik Shokeen in the Mumbai Indians lineup is uncertain. He hasn’t bowled that much and with the bat too he also hasn’t looked good. Team management should look to replace him in the team and bring in Shams Mulani in the team. The left-arm spinner could bring variety to the team’s lineup and is also handy with the bat down the order.

He can provide great supper to leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, who has bowled decently well in the season so far. With batters struggling to get going against left-arm spin, Mulani can be a great addition to the team. Also, he was in staggering domestic form and could prove vital for the team.
