IPL 2022 Points Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap - Updated on May 19th

IPL 2022 Points Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap: The high-pressure contest between Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the DY Patil Sports Stadium has been secured by the KL Rahul-led LSG by defeating KKR by three runs in the final ball.

LSG skipper KL Rahul decided to bat first after winning the toss. Owing to a sensational opening partnership, that never broke, Lucknow managed to post a daunting total of 210 runs in 20 overs. Southpaw Quinton de Kock played a scintillating knock of unbeaten 140 runs from 70 deliveries while KL Rahul played second fiddle and scored an unbeaten 68 from 51 balls.

Chasing a mammoth total was never going to be easy for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), especially with their inconsistent top order. LSG were off to a great start, reducing KKR to 10/2 inside the powerplay.

Skipper Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana played counter-attacking innings to keep at par with the chase, however, both the batters eventually fell against the escalating required run rate.

A fantastic partnership between Sunil Narine and Rinku Singh gave KKR another life to confirm the match, however, it was LSG which emerged victorious at the end with three runs. In the final over 21 runs were required and Rinku Singh did all the magic to reduce the equation to 3 runs in 2 balls, but, a spectacular catch from Evin Lewis in the penultimate delivery to get rid of Rinku Singh did the trick for Lucknow.

Lucknow won the game by three runs and got a big “Q” against their name as they confirm their playoff berth in the Tata IPL 2022.
