IPL 2022 Points Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap: Mahendra Singh Dhoni spearheaded Chennai Super Kings (CSK) announced its arrival once again in the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 as they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 13 runs in a high scoring contest at the MCA Pune.

Forced to bat first by Kane Williamson, Chennai’s top order change brought back the fortunes of the franchise. Opener Ruturaj Gaikwad returned back to his sublime touch while Devon Conway, at the other end, played a scintillating knock and took Chennai to a massive total.

The right-handed opener, Ruturaj Gaikwad fell just one short of his well deserved century. He smacked six fours and as many sixes in his innings of 99 runs from 57 balls. Devon Conway, on the other end, remained unbeaten at 85 runs in 55 deliveries. Conway smashed eight fours and four maximums in his innings.

Owing to sensational efforts from Conway and Gaikwad, Chennai Super Kings managed to put up a daunting total of 202 runs in the loss of two wickets.

SRH, in pursuit of a 202 runs total, got off to a blazing start. Abhishek Sharma did most of the scoring in the powerplay but was dismissed just before the end of the initial field restrictions. Meanwhile, SRH’s middle order crumbled to tackle the climbing required rate.

Despite Nicholas Pooran’s blitz innings of 64 runs from mere 33 deliveries, Sunrisers Hyderabad remained 13 runs shy of the target set by the CSK.

A couple of days ago, SRH looked absolutely dominating as they continued their five-match winning streak, however, an end to it has demoralised the franchise. In no time, SRH has suffered two consecutive defeats and has just five wins from nine matches.

Young SRH opener Abhishek Sharma’s consistency has put him in the top three in the list of the highest run-getters in the Indian Premier League 2022. Sharma scored 39 off 24 deliveries that helped him jump over Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma.

He is only behind England batter Jos Buttler and Lucknow skipper KL Rahul. Though the margin of runs is quite high, for a youngster to compete there is always a treat to watch.
