IPL 2022 Points Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap: Rajasthan Royals (RR) returned back to winning ways as it defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in an important fixture by two dozen runs at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, last night.

After winning the toss, Rajasthan skipper Sanju Samson took the bold step to bat first in the tournament where every skipper has been reluctant to bowl first. Rajasthan Royals lost the most important wicket of Jos Buttler in just the third over, however, the other batters contributed significantly and took the franchise to 178 runs in the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. 

Young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal was the top scorer with 41 runs from 29 deliveries followed by Devdutt Padikkal with 39 runs from 18 deliveries.

Chasing a total of 178 runs, Lucknow batters couldn’t predict the extent of pace and swing from the opposition. Trent Boult blew Lucknow’s top order along with Prasidh Krishna. The middle-order tried to bring the chase back on track, however, it wasn’t enough for the debutant franchise to tackle the Rajasthan challenge.

Deepak Hooda scored much required 59 runs from 39 balls while Marcus Stoinis and Krunal Pandya helped with their 27 and 25 runs respectively.

However, in the end, it was Rajasthan Royals who emerged victorious with 24 runs and pocketed two crucial match points.

Lucknow Super Giants was placed second in the points table while Rajasthan Royals was placed third, however, after the match the position has been shuffled. Rajasthan toppled Lucknow to reach the second position while Lucknow stands at number three.

Both Lucknow and Rajasthan have 16 rating points from 13 matches, but a superior net run rate of Rajasthan Royals has done the trick.

Lucknow batter Deepak Hooda reached the fourth position after scoring a crucial 59 runs against Rajasthan Royals. Hooda has 406 runs in 13 IPL 2022 matches and is placed fourth in the points table.

Rajasthan opener Jos Buttler remains at the crown even though he registered his lowest score (2 runs off 6) in the ongoing IPL 2022. Buttler has 627 runs in 13 matches and is followed by KL Rahul with 469 runs in 13 matches.

RR tweaker Yuzvendra Chahal took back his crown from RCB spinner Wanindu Hasaranga after picking up a solitary yet crucial wicket of Deepak Hooda. Chahal’s wicket tally reached 24 in 13 matches while Hasaranga stands at 23 scalps from 13 matches.

Punjab pacer Kagiso Rabada is placed at number three with 21 wickets from 11 matches followed by Mohammad Shami (18 wickets) and Harshal Patel (18 wickets).
