ICC WTC Points Table 2025 Update: Pakistan Falls From 2nd to 5th | ICC World Test Championship 2025-2027

After getting 2nd position in the ICC WTC Points Table 2025, Pakistan slips to the 5th position in the ICC World Test Championship Rankings 2025-2027. Meanwhile, South Africa jumped to the 4th position from 7th and tied the two-match test series by 1-1. Pakistan had an excellent opportunity to remain in the top 2 and eye the 1st spot, but now it’s not going to be easy.

Both teams were strong, and they played good cricket for the crucial points in the ICC WTC 2025-27 Cycle. As of now, both South Africa and Pakistan have a PCT of 50% each, and they will be aiming to improve in the upcoming test series. The Player of the Series was Senuran Muthusamy, who played fantastic cricket for his team.

Pakistan’s Fall from 2nd to 5th Postion:

When Pakistan won the 1st test match in Lahore, they jumped to the second position in the ICC WTC Points Table, surpassing teams like India and England. But now they are in 5th position after losing the 2nd test against South Africa. 

Even though South Africa surpassed Pakistan in the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 Standings, now they are at 4th position, whereas Pakistan is at 5th position. However, both still have the PCT of 50% and 12 points.

Pakistan played good cricket in the first inning and they made 333 runs on the scoreboard, but South Africa outsmarted them and they scored 404 runs in their first inning. With this, South Africa had a lead of 71 runs, and then Pakistan came to bat in the second inning, but they got all out by scoring just 138 runs.

South Africa easily chased the target of 68 runs in just 13 overs of their second inning. South Africa registered their first test victory in Pakistan after 18 years. Both the bowling and batting departments did an excellent job, and they collaboratively helped the team to tie this test series.

Keshav Maharaj and Simon Harmer bowled exceptionally in the 2nd test match in Rawalpindi. Keshav took nine wickets, where Simon got eight wickets, and both had the economy rate below 3, which is pretty much impressive on a venue like this, where batters score plenty of runs.

Apart from batting, the bowling from Pakistan wasn’t up to the mark in the second test match. Except for Abrar Ahmed, no other bowler put the South African batter under pressure throughout the test match. Abrar got six wickets in this match, whereas no other bowler even crossed the 4+ wicket mark.
