History! England becomes the first ever team to score 300+ runs against a full test nation in a T20I, Phil Salt scripts history
The England cricket team created history by scoring 304 runs in the second T20 match played against South Africa in Manchester. The Three Lions have now become the third team and the first test-playing nationa to cross the 300 run-mark in Twenty-Twenty International Cricket. Before them, Zimbabwe (344 runs) and Nepal (314 runs) have achieved this feat.
In this match for the 2022 T20 World Cup winners, opening pair of Jos Buttler (83 runs in 30 balls) and Phil Salt (141* runs in 60 deliveries) batted explosively and took their team past 100 in the powerplay itself. The former could not score a century but Phil Salt scored a century in just 39 deliveries. The African team won the toss and decided to bowl first but the English team proved this decision completely wrong and put up a mountain of 304 runs on the scoreboard.
Buttler slammed a total of 8 fours and 7 sixes while Salt remained unbeaten at a score of 141 runs. He also hit 15 fours and 8 sixes in his innings. With this, Salt also became the fastest batsman to score a century in International T20 for England.
Apart from the openers, Jacob Bethell contributed 26 runs and Harry Brook also contributed 41 runs. In this match, South Africa's bowling proved to be a complete flop. Be it Marco Jansen or Kagiso Rabada, everyone was thrashed in such a way that they will hardly ever forget this match. Now from here, the African team will need a miracle to win the match.
England achieved 200 runs in just 12.1 overs, marking the quickest time any team has accomplished this in Twenty20 Internationals. Salt kept up the momentum, establishing a new record for England's highest T20I score. To help push England past the 300-run milestone with an explosive finish, captain Harry Brook joined him late in the innings and intensified the onslaught. South Africa's bowlers were left bewildered as we observed complete dominance.
Were there any records that have been shattered? Absolutely. England eclipsed their previous T20I record of 267/3 set against the West Indies in 2023, now boasting a new high of 304/2. Salt has now joined an elite group by scoring four hundreds in the shortest format of the game, and his unbeaten 141 stands as the Three Lions' top individual score in T20Is. The fastest 200 runs in T20I history was achieved in just 12.1 overs. Moreover, their total of 166/1 after 10 overs marks the most explosive start any team has ever had. South Africa remains the only team to have conceded 250 or more runs in three Twenty20 Internationals. Additionally, this match features the highest T20I score ever recorded by a Test-playing nation against another Test-playing nation.
