T20 World Cup 2024 Points Table: Aiden Markram-led South Africa has doubled-down on their winning streak as they bag another win in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8. The Proteas, this time, defeated England by 7 runs to bring up their second win of the Super 8 round. Their overall points rise to 4 and they move to the top of the T20 World Cup 2024 Points Table. 



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">ENG vs SA Match Highlights</h2>



South Africa were put to bat first at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia by the English skipper Jos Buttler after winning the flip of the coin. The Proteas managed to put up 163 runs on the board in the loss of 6 wickets in their quota of 20 overs.



Reeza Hendricks and Quinton de Kock provided a blazing start to the innings with a partnership of 86 runs inside 10 overs. De Kock remained the key figure in the partnership as he scored 65 runs in 38 deliveries which included 4 fours and as many sixes. Following the dismissal of the openers, David Miller played a solid 28-ball 43-run knock before getting dismissed. 



Despite getting a fantastic start to the innings, South Africa lost its plot midway through the innings with wickets falling continuously. The English bowlers took over control of the innings and didn't let the Proteas score heavily in spite of a good partnership upfront.



For England, Jofra Archer returned with three wickets, while one wicket each was picked by Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid.



England, meanwhile, couldn't get a good start to their innings with Phil Salt getting dismissed in the powerplay itself. Soon, Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler were also removed by Keshav Maharaj to further put pressure on the Englishmen.



England began losing wickets and they were suddenly four wickets down at a score of 61 runs in 10 overs. However, Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone came to England's rescue as the two played a 78-run partnership.



As the partnership began to look threatening, seasoned pacer Kagiso Rabada provided a breakthrough, dismissing Livingstone (33 off 17) while Anrich Nortje removed Harry Brook (53 off 37).



Though England managed to streatch the game till the final over, destiny had some other plans as they eventually fell 7 runs short of the required total against South Africa. England could only score 156 runs in the chase of 163 and lost the contest by 7 runs.

England National Cricket Team skipper Jos Buttler has stepped down as the captain of the white-ball team. This comes after his poor performances as captain in the ongoing 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, where the Three Lions faced a group-stage exit. 
England National Cricket Team was eliminated from the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy after they suffered a disappointing defeat against the Afghanistan National Cricket Team. This was their second consecutive loss in the ODIs, having faced a poor defeat against Australia in their tournament opener. 
After England got eliminated from the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, skipper Jos Buttler faced a lot of criticism. The keeper-batter has been having a torrid time as a leader as even before the tournament, his team were at the receiving end of thrashing against India and England in T20Is. 
Jos Buttler will be leading the England National Cricket Team for the one final time in the game against South Africa in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The match between the teams will be taking place at the National Stadium in Karachi on Saturday (28th February).
<h2> Hopefully somebody else who can come in and work closely alongside Baz to take the team back to where it needs to be - Jos Buttler </h2>
Jos Buttler made the decision public during the press conference ahead of the game against South Africa. He believes that it was the right time for him to step down as the captain and an opportunity for someone else to take the team forward along with coach Brendon McCullum. Speaking about his decision, he said: 
"Just to let you all know, I'm going to stand down as England captain. It's the right decision for me, it's the right decision for the team and hopefully somebody else who can come in and work closely alongside Baz to take the team back to where it needs to be. 
I think it's quite clear that this tournament was going to be important results-wise for my captaincy and obviously two losses and being out of the tournament with a bit of a hangover from some tournaments before, I think I just probably reached the end of the road for me and my captaincy, which is a shame." 
Jos Buttler guided England to the win in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. However, after that, the Three Lions faced a group stage exit in the ICC World Cup 2023, lost in the semi-final against India in the T20 World Cup 2024 and again group stage exit in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
