From “Fraud Babar” to “Ab Ye Karega Drama” PAK vs SA 1st Test Day 1 Highlights | Pakistan vs South Africa
Day 1 of the Pakistan vs South Africa 1st test at the Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore gave us some more drama than anyone expected, both on and off the field. Pakistan played good cricket on Day 1, with an excellent start, as Imam-ul-Haq scored 93 runs off 152 balls. Pakistan made 313 runs with the loss of 5 wickets in 90 overs.
South Africa's bowlers could have done better; however, they bowled pretty well, especially the spinners. Perenelan Sburayen and Senuran Muthusamy both had an economy rate below four throughout Day 1. However, except for Kagiso Rabada, South African Pacers leaked lots of runs, and they failed to put pressure on Pakistani batters.
However, the highlight of the day turned into criticism after controversial commentary by former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja, who was caught on live TV inculcating the Pakistan star player Babar Azam. Babar Azam played for Pakistan after a long break, but he got out by scoring just 23 runs off 48 balls.
Pakistan vs South Africa Day 1: Match Highlights
Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat first. They lost the first wicket on the third ball of the match, but the 163-run partnership by Imam-ul-Haq and Skipper Shan Masood for the second inning put South African bowlers under pressure.
Imam-ul-Haq continued his robust form and played a fantastic and responsible knock of 93 runs off 152 balls at a strike rate of 60.78. Pakistan’s captain Shan Masood had to prove everyone their position in the team, and he played a fiery inning of 76 runs off 147 balls, including nine fours and 1 six.
Then, Babar Azam failed to convert his innings into a big one and got out by scoring just 23 runs, which led to lots of criticism. Saud Shakeel got out at duck on the very first ball of his innings; however, later wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha made a crucial partnership of 214 runs for the fifth wicket.
Both played excellent cricket and used the wicket effectively by rotating the strikes and hitting shots on loose deliveries. As of now, Rizwan (62*) is off 107 balls, whereas Salman Ali Aga (52*) is off 83 balls, and both are expected to hit centuries, but Kagiso Rabada might trouble them on Day 2.
The Proteas could have done better, especially the pacers. Kagiso Rabada was the only Pacer from the South African side who got a wicket and had a low economy rate. However, spinners like Simon Harmer and Prenelan Subreyan bowled really well and troubled the Pakistani batters a bit.
Off-Field Drama on Pakistan vs South Africa Day 1
During the live coverage, commentator Ramiz Raja was caught red-handed insulting Babar Azam. He forgot that his microphone was live, and Ramiz said “Ab ye karega Drama”, in reference to Babar Azam’s approach on the field during Pakistan vs South Africa 1st test Day 1.
