The Player of the match was England’s Captain Harry Brook, who played an exceptional inning of 78 runs in just 35 balls at a strike rate of 222.86. It was a one-sided game for England; they played dominating cricket with both bat and ball in Christchurch.
While batting first, England made a massive 236/4 runs on the scoreboard in 20 overs. Phil Salt played a fantastic knock of 85 (56), whereas skipper Harry Brook made 78 (35). New Zealand’s bowling was below average in this game; most of the bowlers had an 11+ economy rate despite having big names like Matt Henry and Jacob Duffy.
New Zealand could score only 171 runs and they got all out in 18 overs. Tim Seifert gave a good start by playing an impressive knock of 39 runs, and Mark Chapman also tried to make an impact but got out by scoring just 28 runs. Later, Skipper Mitchell Santner played a fantastic knock of 36 runs in just 15 balls, but it wasn’t enough to win the game.

New Zealand won the toss, but they chosed to bowl first. England came to bat in the first inning, and they had an explosive start. Meanwhile, England lost two wickets in the power play, but Phil Salt continued the fireworks from one end.
Later, Harry Brook joined, and both batters were smashing boundaries all over the ground; they didn’t spare any bowlers. Brook and Salt made a massive 129-run partnership for the third wicket. Harry Brook scored 78 runs off 35 balls, including five sixes and six fours, whereas Phil Salt scored 85 runs off 56 balls, including 11 fours and 1 six.
Later, Tom Banton also played a small but impactful inning of 29 runs off 12 balls. From the New Zealand bowling department, Kyle Jamieson took two wickets, whereas Jacob Duffy and Michael Bracewell got one wicket each.
In the Second inning, New Zealand had a terrible start as they lost two wickets in just two overs of the second inning. No batter even crossed the 40+ mark, and they easily lost their wicket against a decent bowling attack of England. The target of 237 runs put the Kiwi batters under pressure from the start of the game, and they lost their wickets easily.
Tim Seifert and Skipper Mitchell Santner were the only batters who showed some resistance and played a decent knock of 39 and 36 runs, respectively. From England’s bowling department, Adil Rashid took four wickets, whereas Luke Wood, Brydon Carse, and Liam Dawson got two wickets each.
