Dinesh Karthik cementing his place in Indian side for T20 World Cup 2022: Indian veteran batter Dinesh Karthik slammed an unbeaten 41 runs in just 19 balls against West Indies in the opening T20I at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba and helped his side clinch a clinical 68-run win. Karthik, as usual, took his time initially to set him up for the impending fireworks and then whacked the opposition batters to lead India to a total of 190 runs in 20 overs.
On the surface where shot-making was certainly not easy, the Indian finisher backed his skills and launched an attack on the Caribbean bowlers. The Indian spinners rightly complemented Karthik’s fine finish in the first innings and restricted the opposition to a score of 122 runs in 20 overs.
Following the completion of the contest, Karthik collected his Man of the Match award and said that he is loving this role and is happy to produce impactful performances.
“I have been enjoying it a lot,” said Dinesh Karthik. “It is a very interesting role. It is not something that you can be very consistent with but on some days, you can make an impact on the team.”
“You need the backing of the captain and coach and I have got that in abundance,” added Karthik.
Notably, Karthik’s blistering performances have helped him cement his place on the Indian T20I side. His IPL season for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2022 turned out to be a turning point in his cricketing career where he was struggling to play consistent cricket.
The seasoned glovesman amassed 330 runs from 16 IPL 2022 games at an impressive average (55) and brisk strike rate (183.33). The game-changing IPL season paved a way for him to make a comeback on the Indian side and pose himself as a strong candidate for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Dinesh Karthik confirmed for T20 World Cup 2022: Reports
As per several reports, Karthik has already won selectors’ trust and is confirmed to board a place Down Under to participate in the T20 World Cup 2022.
“Who is now able to stop Dinesh Karthik? He is now a lock to play in the T20 World Cup in Australia. He continuously delivers through his method and, more crucially, through his approach itself. He now has a lot of experience”, the selector was quoted as saying by Insidesport.
“There has been no formal discussion on the subject. When we speak casually, everyone is very impressed with him and his attitude,” the selector added.
