DC vs MI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has slapped Mumbai Indians (MI) player Ishan Kishan with a 10 per cent match fee penalty for breaching IPL code of conduct during Mumbai’s fixture against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday, which was held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Ishan Kishan, who had a modest day against Delhi Capitals, was fined a 1/10th of his match fee hours after his team lost the fixture by 10 runs.

As per the statement released by the BCCI, Ishan Kishan “admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction” for level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of IPL’s code of conduct, which relates to “hitting or kicking the wickets and any action(s) which deliberately (i.e. intentionally), recklessly or negligently (in either case even if accidental) results in damage to the advertising boards, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows and other fixtures and fittings.”

The article also includes charges against “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match.”

The board has not mentioned the actual incident due to which the cricketer has been reprimanded by the officials.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians continued its pale run in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as it sustained its sixth loss.

Mumbai fell 10 runs shy of chasing the mammoth 257-run total set by the Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals.

The fixture saw a blitz knock from youngster Jake Fraser-McGurk, who slammed a match-winning 27-ball 84-run knock for the Capitals. McGurk’s knock included 11 fours and six sixes at an alarming 311.11 strike rate.

His early outburst aided Delhi to post a colossal 257 runs total in 20 overs in the loss of four wickets. The team also saw significant contributions from Abhishek Porel (36 runs), Shai Hope (41 runs) and Tristin Stubbs (48 runs).

Mumbai Indians (MI) couldn’t get off to a solid start with their openers perishing inside the powerplay. Soon, Suryakumar Yadav also got dismissed and MI was on the back foot.

However, Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya kept the scoreboard ticking with the latter doing quick run-scoring in the partnership. MI skipper added 46 runs to the chase in just 24 balls and kept MI in the hunt.

Tim David later added 17-ball 37 to further simply the chase along with Tilak Varma, who scored 63 off 32, but eventually they fell 10 runs short of the required target.

The defeat further deepens the scars for Mumbai Indians (MI) as they remain in the penultimate position in IPL points table with six losses and three wins in nine outings.
