In what has been the latest development, as per the reports in RevSportz, it is learned that Shubman Gill is all set to be named as the vice-captain of the Indian Cricket Team in the Asia Cup 2025. The tournament will be played from 9th to 28th September in the UAE. 

The reports claimed that Shubman Gill has impressed selectors with his leadership during the England tour. Hence, he is all set to return to the T20I format not only as a batter but will also be taking the leadership role in the team during the tournament. 

Shubman Gill, who last featured on T20Is against Sri Lanka in 2024, being named as the vice-captain of India for the Asia Cup 2025, enhances his status as a growing leader in the Indian dressing room across formats. 

With Shubman Gill returning to the T20I team, the question remains about his batting position. With a lot of top-order options, there might be a chance that he bats at three. He has been pretty impressive in the last three IPL seasons. 

Gill slammed 890 runs at a strike rate of 157.80, 426 at 147.40, and 650 at 155.88, respectively. With UAE conditions being slow, he will strengthen the top order, and the team will need someone who can provide control at the start, especially against Pakistan.

The Indian Cricket Team will open their campaign in the Asia Cup 2025 against the UAE on 10th September. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be announcing the squad soon, which is all set to be captained by Suryakumar Yadav.
