Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's retirement decided by the BCCI, might not play the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027

In what has been the last development, as per the reports in Dainik Jagran, it is learned that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli might retire from ODIs after the Australia series. The reports added that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are looking at the youngsters. 

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have announced their retirement from the T20Is and Tests, have expressed their desire to play the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027. But with ODIs not so frequent these days, maintaining fitness will be a great challenge for them.

After the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be next seen in action when India plays three ODI against Australia in October. However, this might turn out to be their last as the BCCI has given both the batters an ultimatum.

It is learned that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been asked to play the Vijay Hazare Trophy if they want to keep their hopes of playing the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 alive. The domestic competition will be played in December later this year. 

Both the stalwarts of the Indian Cricket team last appeared in domestic cricket when they were asked to play the Ranji Trophy after the horrible Australia tour. However, after playing the games, they retired from the longest format of the game. 

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 is still away, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will have to deal with a lot of challenges to be there. After the series against Australia, India will take on South Africa at home in December. 

In 2026, India’s ODI schedule includes series against New Zealand (January), Afghanistan (June), England (July), the West Indies (September), and another series against New Zealand (October).
