IPL 2022
IMG SRC: DNA India

IPL 2022 is on track! The Board of Control for Cricket in India is expected to conduct the IPL 2022 from 27th March onwards. The tournament will then end in the last week of May. The BCCI is also keen on conducting the IPL 2022 in India itself, with Mumbai and Pune being the likely venues. This means that the IPL will start a week earlier. Other several updates were given in the meeting of the owners conducted by the BCCI on Saturday, 22nd October. Here is an in-depth look:

BCCI Likely to Conduct IPL in Mumbai and Pune:

The BCCI had a meeting with the owners of the teams. The meeting was attended by almost every owner including Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, the Ambanis, Parth Jindal, and the owners of the two new franchises, Ahmedabad and Lucknow. There were two major discussions held in this meeting. One was around, the change of dates of the IPL, and the other was around the venues of the IPL. The change in the dates is such that the IPL will shift a week earlier. The IPL will begin on the 27th of March. It was agreed upon by all the owners.

The second discussion was around the venue of the IPL. The available options were to conduct it in the UAE South Africa or Mumbai and Pune. The option of South Africa has been put on hold as the broadcasting timings do not exactly match with India. The UAE option was sidelined because dew plays spoilsport. The matches in the UAE last year favored the teams that batted second. The ball was getting super wet for the teams balling second and was also skidding off the wicket.

The option of Mumbai and Pune was agreed upon by all the owners. The two cities comprise a total of 4 stadiums. The Wankhede Stadium, the Brabourne Stadium (CCI), the DY Patil Stadium (New Mumbai), and the Subroto Roy Stadium at Gahunje, Pune. The fact that these cities have the hotels and accommodation required to hold the IPL bandwagon, were considered.

IPL 2022 Mega Auction to be held on 13th and 14th February in Bangalore:

The IPL Mega Auction is going ahead as planned. It is going to be held in Bengaluru on the 13th and 14th of February. The final decision regarding conduction will be taken on the 20th of February. The decision to conduction the IPL in Mumbai was also supported by the fact that the schools in Maharashtra open from the 24th of January.
