Babar Azam on the verge of surpassing Kohli and Rohit in T20i Cricket

Pakistani skipper Babar Azam is on the verge of becoming the most successful skipper in the history of T20 International Cricket. The 29-year-old needs to win just one more game to achieve this feat and leapfrog Uganda’s Brian Masaba.

With Shaheens set to play a total of seven T20 International games against Ireland and England ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup, Babar’s chances of becoming the most successful captain in T20i Cricket are pretty high.

Captains with the highest number of victories in T20 Internationals:

1 . Babar Azam – 44 victories in 76 games

2 . Brian Masaba – 44 victories in 56 games

3 . Asghar Afghan – 42 victories in 72 games

Babar Azam is also close to achieving another milestone in the shortest format of the game as he has the opportunity to surpass the Indian duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in terms of the highest number of runs scored by a player in T20 Internationals.

Babar has currently scored 3,823 runs in the shortest format of the game and is the third-highest run-getter in T20i Cricket.

Virat Kohli is the highest run-getter with 4,037 runs next to his name in 109 innings while Rohit is second on the list with 3,974 runs.

The Men in Green are going to play three T20i games against Ireland and four against England before the 2024 T20 World Cup and these games will provide a really good opportunity to Azam to overtake the Indian duo of Virat and Rohit.

The 29-year-old Pakistani captain needs just 151 runs to match the runs scored by Rohit while 215 runs will help him overtake Kohli as the highest run scorer in the shortest format of the game.

Earlier today, the Men in Green left for Ireland’s Dublin, from the city of Lahore via UAE’s Dubai.

The PCB has already announced an 18-player squad for the England and Ireland series and the squad will be shortened to 15 players for the upcoming T20 World Cup following the conclusion of the first T20 International against England on 22nd May.
