Asia Cup 2023 Super 4: India vs Pakistan on 10th September to have a reserve day: In a very positive development, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has added a reserve day for the impending India vs Pakistan game, which is scheduled to be held on 10th September, during the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4s. The India vs Pakistan fixture is the second game to have the provision of reserve day after it was originally put in place for the Asia Cup 2023 Final.

The decision to add a reserve day to the India vs Pakistan game on September 10 was taken following discussions amongst the Asia Cup stakeholders. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) proposed the idea which was later adopted by the entire member’s panel.

Notably, the first India vs Pakistan encounter on September 2nd was partially washed out due to incessant rain in Pallekele. The rain gods interrupted the game in Pallekele multiple times during the Indian batting, and later it put a complete full stop in the game and no second innings was possible.

India, unfortunately, became a victim of a similar kind of weather during its second fixture against Nepal on September 4 in Pallekele. However, this time, with rain permitting, a shortened 23-over chase was made possible for India, after Nepal notched up 230 runs in 48.2 overs.

Although the upcoming India vs Pakistan game is slated to be held in Colombo, the forecast in the city is not encouraging either. There is a 90 per cent chance of precipitation during the match day, which is again a threat of the match getting completely washed out.

Seeing the possibility of India vs Pakistan wash-out, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wrote to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to shift the match from Colombo to Hambantota. However, the request was rejected by the governing body.

The PCB had to agree to the decision, but it formally protested against the decision-making of the ACC. Eventually, during these discussions, it was zeroed on that a reserve day would be put in place in case there is a possibility of a complete washout of the India vs Pakistan game.

For both the matches – India vs Pakistan and Asia Cup 2023 Final, for which the reserve day has been allocated, efforts will be made to complete the match on the scheduled day. However, if the reserve day comes into play, the conditions for the contest will remain the same as they were on the last ball of the previous day.
