“Why can’t I play” - Mohammed Shami openly attacks BCCI, says he is 100% fit after Ajit Agarkar rules him unfit for the Australia tour
Indian Cricket Team fast bowler Mohammed Shami openly revolted against the BCCI and the Indian team management for calling him unfit. He mentioned that if he can play the Ranji Trophy the why can’t he play the ODI cricket?
Mohammed Shami was one of the notable omissions from the Indian team for the ODIs against Australia. The fast bowler has been completely sidelined by the team management as they have been going ahead with youngsters Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna.
Mohammed Shami, who was the joint highest wicket-taker for India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, was expected to play the Australia series. However, he hasn’t been in the scheme of things after the Indian Premier League (IPL) concluded.
It was expected that he would be on the flight to England for the test series against England but it was learned that he was not fit for the series. Then, it was expected that he would be there for the West Indies series but again he missed out and the same was the case for the Australia series.
If I can play four-day cricket, then why can’t I play a 50-over game? - Mohammed Shami
Speaking about his snub, Mohammed Shami said that when he can play the Ranji Trophy, there is no reason why he can’t play the ODI.
“Indian team didn’t communicate with me regarding fitness. I am not the one who would inform them about my fitness – they have to ask me. If I can play four-day cricket, then why can’t I play a 50-over game? If I wasn’t fit, I’d be at the NCA and not playing here in the Ranji Trophy,” Shami told India Today
Shami openly targeted BCCI, saying that no one has asked about about his fitness. He concluded by saying that if he gets a chance to play, he will definitely play. He added:
"To know about my fitness, you have to ask & understand about my fitness, no one asked me about my fitness. I've been playing regularly Champions Trophy, IPL and all domestic matches. If I get a chance to play the match, then we’ll definitely play". He concluded.
