WPL 2023 proved to be a big hit, with fans coming in large numbers to watch the matches. The Mumbai Indians, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, lifted the trophy in the first season by defeating the Delhi Capitals in the final last year. Meg Lanning, the captain of the Delhi Capitals, won the orange cup with 345 runs at a strike rate of 139.11, while Hayley Mathews of the Mumbai Indians won the purple cap with 16 scalps at an economy rate of 5.94.
The BCCI revealed that a total of 165 players will be auctioned off in the WPL 2024 auction. The WPL 2024 auction will take place in Mumbai on the 9th of December.The auction in Mumbai will include 104 Indian players, 61 international players, and 15 players from associate nations. The maximum base price in the auction is set at 50 lakh rupees. The WPL franchises have retained a total of 60 players. The five franchises that will participate in WPL 2024 will be the Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Up Warriorz, and Gujarat Giants. The Gujarat Giants will enter the auction with the largest purse (INR 5.95 crore), while the Mumbai Indians have the smallest (INR 2.1 crore).
