GG vs MI: Gujarat Giants become second team to qualify for playoffs; leave Mumbai Indians in a threat of elimination after win in WPL 2026

Gujarat Giants became the second team to qualify for the playoffs, booking their berth in the Eliminator of the WPL 2026. They beat the Mumbai Indians by 11 runs at  BCA Stadium, Kotambi, Vadodara, leaving Mumbai in a do-or-die situation now. Opting to bat, Gujarat posted 167 for four, in response, despite Harmanpreet Kaur’s masterclass, Mumbai failed to chase, managing 156 for seven.

GG lost Beth Mooney early, and it was yet again Sophie Devine (25) and Anushka Sharma (33) who had the responsibility to steady the innings after a poor start. They batted well for their 48-run partnership for the second wicket, but both couldn’t carry on the start they had, leaving Gujarat at 71 for three.

After that captain Asheligh Gardner (46) took the responsibility and ensured that she took her team to a fighting total. She got great support from Georgia Wareham (44*) as the duo put Mumbai bowlers under pressure. Thanks to their 71-run partnership, Gujarat posted a total of 167 for four. 

GG vs MI: Harmanpreet Kaur's effort goes in vain as GG wins a thriller

Chasing the target, Mumbai had a poor and ordinary start to their innings. Sajeevan Sajana (26) had a decent start, but couldn’t carry on as defending champions lost three wickets for just 37. With the team under pressure, captain Harmanpreet Kaur (82*) took matters into her own hands and scored a valuable half-century.

She got decent support from Amelia Kerr (20) and Amanjot Kaur, who scored 13, but it was all about her as he did the bulk of the scoring in 45 and 44 run partnership stands respectively.

The chase was all about her she took the game to last over with Mumbai needing 26. She hit two monstrous sixes, but it wasn’t enough as Gujarat Giants finally registered their first win against Mumbai in WPL.

After match 19, GG vs MI, the Smriti Mandhana-led side is still at the top spot on the points table with Q besided their name, having qualifief for final. Gujarat Giants are at second spot and have made it into the playoffs. Mumbai Indians sit at third spot in points table. Delhi Capitals are at fourth, while UP Warriorz are at last in the table.
