Pakistan players to boycott ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Promotions: Reports: Reportedly, the Pakistan men’s senior players are considering a complete boycott of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 promotions and sponsor logos owing to the persisting issue with their central contracts. A few reports have emerged that the top players have not yet received their monthly retainership amount leading them to take the drastic step.

Earlier reports claimed that the likes of Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi were offered PKR 4.5 Million each, roughly around INR 13.22 Lakhs, as their monthly retention fee. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is yet to proceed with these player contracts.

The test cricketers, earlier, received 1.1 million rupees per month (approx. INR 3.2 lakh) while the white ball players used to get 0.95 million rupees (approx. INR 2.8 lakh).

A report in Cricket Pakistan claimed that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) hasn’t released the monthly retainership fee of the players for four months, due to which some young cricketers are facing difficulties in handling their finances.

A Pakistani cricketer informed that the team would boycott the promotional stuff during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and also not endorse the sponsor logos due to lack of financial support from the PCB.

“We are willing to represent Pakistan for free, but our question is why we should promote sponsors’ logos that are affiliated with the board. Similarly, we may decline to participate in promotional activities and other events. During the World Cup, we won’t engage in ICC’s commercial promotions and activities either,” a Pakistan cricket team player told Cricket Pakistan on conditions of anonymity.

Notably, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to get a handsome amount of  USD 34.5 million from the ICC’s annual revenue. The PCB will fetch nearly 5.75 percent of the apex board’s total annual revenue.

Some reports, earlier claimed that the Pakistan cricketers have asked for a revenue-sharing model with the PCB for the money it will fetch from the ICC.

Pakistan’s ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign is set to kickstart on October 6 against the Netherlands at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The Men in Green will have their second fixture against Sri Lanka on October 10 at the same venue.

The most anticipated India vs Pakistan fixture is slated to commence on October 14 in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
