Women's ODI World Cup 2025 Points Table - Pakistan Nearly Pull Off Upset; England Saved by Rain as the two sides share one point each
The Women's ODI World Cup 2025 contest between England Women and Pakistan Women got ABANDONED DUE TO RAIN! WHICH RESULTED IN A HEARTBREAK FOR PAKISTAN WOMEN. Following a fantastic bowling display that left England Women reeling, the rain has regrettably undone their hard work. After a demonstration of dominance with the ball, it's a harsh blow. But that's the problem with playing in Colombo: there isn't much anybody can do when the rain gods decide to step in.

Earlier in the match, Pakistan's bowlers made early inroads as England Women battled their way to 133/9. The Pakistani captain, Fatima Sana, led from the front with a four-wicket haul, but the English batsmen had a hard time navigating her in-swingers. Before play was stopped by rain, England had fallen to 79/6, with Sadia Iqbal contributing two wickets. Charlie Dean's useful 33 and some assistance from Em Arlott allowed England to score 54 more runs in the last six overs following the lengthy wait. Rain caused the number of overs to be lowered, hence the new aim for Pakistan Women was 113 in 31 overs.
Finding boundaries with easE and keeping the scoreboard moving, the Pakistani openers started the chase with genuine determination. Muneeba Ali was the ideal anchor, while Omaima Sohail adopted an aggressive approach. The two scored 33 runs in the first six-overs of the batting-powerplay and appeared to be on course to achieve the small run target comfortably. However, the rain returned to ruin the celebration just as everything was about to come together. At 34/0 in 6.4 overs, play halted and never started again.
With the points shared, England Women move to the top of the table on the basis of a better Net Run Rate (NRR) than reigning-champions Australia, but will have to improve a lot with the big games coming up. While Pakistan open their account, though they’ll surely see this as a missed opportunity to claim a famous first-ever Women's One Day International victory over the Three Lions.
