WIPL 2023 Teams Announced – Women’s Premier League: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday (25th January 2023) announced the winners of bidding held for the franchise acquisition of the brand new Women’s Premier League. The cricket board revealed five franchises and their respective successful bidders along with the bidding amount.

The BCCI confirmed the development through a social media post. “BCCI announce successful bidders for Women’s Premier League. The combined bid valuation is INR 4669.99 Cr A look at the Five franchises with ownership rights for #WPL,” wrote BCCI in a tweet.

Renowned business tycoon Adani group made the highest bid by shelling out a whopping INR 1289 Crores to acquire the rights of the Ahmedabad-based WPL franchise. The Adani’s were followed by Indiawin Sports Private Limited, who paid INR 912.99 Crores and were awarded a Mumbai-based team.

Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited were awarded the Bangaluru-based team after they placed a bid of INR 901 Crores. Meanwhile, the other two successful bidders are – JSW GMR Cricket Private Limited – Delhi (INR 810 Crores) and Capri Global Holding Private Limited – Lucknow (INR 757 Crores).

The BCCI is set to have a massive windfall of INR 4669.99 Crores owing to the successful bids registered for the Women’s Premier League.

Earlier, Viacom18 bagged the media rights of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) for the five-year cycle, confirmed the BCCI. The winning amount for the media rights was INR 951 Crores which makes up a value of INR 7.09 Crores per match for the 2023-2027 period.
