<p><strong>Women?s IPL to start from 2023, this year 4 exhibition matches to be held:</strong> The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to conduct a full-fledged women?s Indian Premier League (IPL) from the year 2023 while the cricket board will host four exhibition matches this year, after a gap of a year due to covid pandemic.</p>



<p>The development came a couple of years after people from different disciplines criticised the cricket board of India for not paying any heed to the Women?s IPL.&nbsp;</p>



<p>During the Governing Council meeting of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in Mumbai, recently, the officials decided to make each effort to conduct the Women?s Indian Premier League (IPL) from 2023.</p>



<p>The tournament to go ahead will require AGM?s approval, which the BCCI will seek in the coming time.&nbsp;</p>



<p>WIPL is expected to have five to six teams competing in the tournament for the elusive trophy. The first preference will be given to the existing 10 IPL franchises. As per the reports, at least four teams have shown their interest in WIPL.</p>

<p>?It (the full-fledged women?s IPL) has to be approved by the AGM. We plan to start it by next year hopefully,? BCCI president Sourav Ganguly told reporters after the IPL Governing Council meeting here on Friday.</p>



<p>Meanwhile, IPL chairman Brijesh Patel confirmed that this year will see four exhibition matches between three teams.</p>



<p>?There will be four matches involving three teams around the time of the playoffs,? Patel said after the meeting.</p>



<p>The exhibition matches 2022 will most likely be held in Pune. It must be noted that the exhibition matches couldn?t be conducted last year, as the IPL was shifted to the UAE midway.</p>



<p>Meanwhile, the Indian Premier League (IPL) season fifteen, starts today i.e., 26th March 2022 as defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) cross swords against Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Wankhede Stadium.</p>

<p><strong>Women?s IPL likely to have 5 teams, 20 league matches in 2 venues: </strong>The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is speeding its process to host the first-ever season of the Women?s Indian Premier League (IPL) next year. The inaugural edition of the Women?s IPL is likely to be played amongst five teams, as indicated by a report published in Cricbuzz.</p>



<p>It further suggested that the tentative window for the first edition of Women?s IPL will be March 2023, that is, after the Women?s T20 World Cup in South Africa and before the Men?s Indian Premier League (IPL).&nbsp;</p>



<p>Each of the five teams may choose to play five overseas players - 4 from ICC?s full member nations and one player can be picked from the associate countries. Notably, in Men?s IPL, only four overseas players are allowed to be named in the playing11.</p>



<p>?A maximum of four of the overseas players in the XI can be from the ICC Full Member nations, it?s being considered, whereas the remaining one can be from an Associate Nation,? said the report.</p>



<p>The decision of naming teams - either zone-wise or team-wise format - is yet to be done. The development is likely to proceed after the IPL office bearers meeting.</p>

North (Dharamsala/Jammu), South (Kochi/Vizag), Central (Indore/Nagpur/Raipur), East (Ranchi/Cuttack), North East (Guwahati) and West (Pune/Rajkot) ? with matches held at non-IPL venues) and existing city-wise like with Men?s IPL (Ahmedabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata ? with matches held at IPL venues),? added the report.</p>

<p>As far as the playing format is concerned, 20 league-stage matches will be held amongst the five teams. Each side may play the other twice in the league stage. After the end of the league stage, the team at the top of the points table will directly qualify for the finals, while the second and third-ranked sides will play out the eliminator. The winner of the eliminator will then play the final with the top-ranked team.</p>



<p>All the 20 league stage games are likely to be held in two venues in a city, just like the IPL 2022 was held in Maharashtra.</p>



<p>?With only 20 league games in consideration, as few as two venues will be involved per season for the WIPL. So the inaugural 2023 season could be played at two of the aforementioned venues, the 2024 season at the other two and 2025 at the remaining one plus one of the venues of the 2023 season,? concluded the report.</p>

<p><strong>Women's IPL Media Rights: </strong>On January 16, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that Viacom18 had secured the closed-bid auction for the media rights to the forthcoming Women's Indian Premier League (WIPL) for Rs 951 crore for five years, besting rival bidders Disney+ Hotstar and Sony. The cricket board staged an auction for the T20 league on Monday in Mumbai.</p>



<p>Following the acquisition of IPL Media Rights, Viacom18 has also acquired Women's IPL Media Rights. This indicates that throughout the course of the next five years, the broadcaster will pay the BCCI a value of INR 7.09 crores per match (2023-27). The development signifies an important advancement for women's cricket. Later, Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, verified the fact.</p>

Now with recent developments, the Women's IPL has been the second-richest Cricket League in the world. India's Women's IPL has become bigger than Pakistan's Men's PSL in the inaugural season.</p>

<p>The price per match for the 2023?27 cycle of the Indian Premier League (IPL) media rights sale was a breathtaking INR 57.40 crore, and Viacom18 won the media rights auction for the 2023-2027 seasons for 107.5 Cr INR per match. The Pakistan Super League (PSL), on the other hand, only hit INR 2.76 crore for the 2022?23 cycle, to put things in context. Women's IPL is going to hit INR 7.09 crore per match for the next five years.</p>

<p><strong>BCCI President, Mr. Roger Binny said:</strong> ?I would like to congratulate Viacom18 for bagging the media rights for Women?s IPL for the period of 5 years. Women?s cricket has been on the up since a few years and the recently concluded bilateral series against Australia is a great testament to how popular women?s cricket has become in India. It was only apt to get our own women?s T20 league and give the fans more of women?s cricket. I would also like to congratulate the BCCI leadership and its workforce for a successful media rights process and wish them the very best for the first edition of the Women?s IPL.?</p>



<p><strong>BCCI Honorary Secretary, Mr. Jay Shah said:</strong> ?I am really thrilled that we have had such an encouraging response for a league that will revolutionize women?s cricket not just in India but across the globe. <p><strong>WIPL 2023 Teams Announced - Women's Premier League: </strong>The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday (25th January 2023) announced the winners of bidding held for the franchise acquisition of the brand new Women's Premier League. The cricket board revealed five franchises and their respective successful bidders along with the bidding amount.</p>



<p>The BCCI confirmed the development through a social media post. "BCCI announce successful bidders for Women's Premier League. The combined bid valuation is INR 4669.99 Cr A look at the Five franchises with ownership rights for #WPL," wrote BCCI in a tweet.</p>

<p>Renowned business tycoon Adani group made the highest bid by shelling out a whopping INR 1289 Crores to acquire the rights of the Ahmedabad-based WPL franchise. The Adani's were followed by Indiawin Sports Private Limited, who paid INR 912.99 Crores and were awarded a Mumbai-based team. </p>



<p>Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited were awarded the Bangaluru-based team after they placed a bid of INR 901 Crores. Meanwhile, the other two successful bidders are - JSW GMR Cricket Private Limited - Delhi (INR 810 Crores) and Capri Global Holding Private Limited - Lucknow (INR 757 Crores).</p>



<p>The BCCI is set to have a massive windfall of INR 4669.99 Crores owing to the successful bids registered for the Women's Premier League. </p>

<p><strong>WPL Auction 2023:</strong> The Board of Cricket Council of India (BCCI) has got us some announcements regarding the WPL Auction. The Women's Premier League Player Auction list has been released, with a total of 409 cricketers slated to go under the hammer on February 13, 2023, at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. For the first Women's Premier League Player Auction, 1525 players registered in total, but only 409 made the cut.</p>



<p>According to a statement released by the BCCI on Tuesday, the Women's Premier League will have its debut season in Mumbai from March 4 to 26. The Brabourne Stadium and the DY Patil Stadium will serve as the venues for a total of 22 matches in this high-profile competition.</p>



<p>According to a media advisory released by the BCCI, out of the 409 players, 246 are Indians, 163 are overseas, and eight are from associate countries. There are 202 total capped players, 199 total uncapped players, and 8 players from associate nations. A maximum of 90 slots are available for five teams, with 30 slots reserved for overseas players.</p>

<p>The maximum reserve price for an auction participant has been fixed at Rs. 50 lakhs. There are 24 players who have declared themselves for the top bracket. <p>Match number five of the 2025 Women's Premier League (WPL) was played between the Gujarat Giants (GG) and the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Kotambi Stadium of Vadodara. Both teams are regarded as two of the strongest teams in the competition and everyone was expecting to see a hard fought contest between the two sides. </p>
<p>But, it turned out to be a one sided contest and the Mumbai fan base got the chance to be the happier fan base at the end of the game as the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team secured a comfortable &amp; easy win over the Ashleigh Gardner-led Gujarat Giants by a margin of wickets. </p>
<p>Having won the toss first and elected to field first, it was pretty solid effort from the Mumbai Indians with the ball in hand. They did a fine job of containing the Gujarat Giants batters who were scoring a lot of runs in the last two games and this time around, they weren't able to do anything in front of the supreme bowling effort of MI. </p>
<p>GG had a forgettable start to the innings when they lost Laura Wolvaardt and Beth Mooney cheaply. Despite poor shows at the top of the order, Giants have had Ashleigh Gardner coming down and rescuing them but this time around even the skipper was dismissed for a low score.</p>
<p>Only Harleen Deol stuck for a good chunk of the innings and managed to scrape through a sizeable total.</p>
<p>MI had all of their bowlers chipping in with a wicket contribution, while Parunika Sisodia had a poor debut, the others managed to chip in at regular intervals and do the job.</p>
<p>Hayley Matthews was the pick of the bowlers, managing to add three scalps to her tally, Amelia Kerr and Nat Sciver Brunt picked up two wickets while Shabnim lsmail and Amanjot Kaur picked up one wicket a plece. All in all, it was a complete bowling performance from the inaugural champions. </p>
<p>121 is what Mumbai Indians needed and it turned out to be a walk in the park for the inaugural champions as they easily chased down the total in 16.1 overs at the expense of five wickets. This win also helped the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team to register their first win in the third edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL). </p>
<p>The target was certainly an underpar score given the way the pitch had behaved coming into the contest and the batting unit of MI certainly wanted to end the game quickly. </p>
<p>The bowlers of the Gujarat-based team started the chase on a good note as the duo of Tanuna Kanwar &amp; Ashleigh Gardner began well while Deandra Dottin also bowled a good first over. </p>
<p>MI's Hayley Matthews (17 runs) went berserk in the powerplay, hitting three boundaries before hitting the ball straight into the hands of Harleen Deol at square leg. English batter Nat Sciver-Brunt arrived at the crease at number three and she tried to get involved in a partnership with wicketkeeper batter Yastika Bhatia at the other end but her partner wasn't able to get going and was eventually dismissed by Priya Mishra (2-40). </p>
<p>But, Sciver-Brunt wasn't in the mood to stop and she came out with a positive &amp; aggressive intent, as she played some exceptional shots and used the full depth of the crease in a beautiful manner. </p>
<p>Captain Harmanpreet Kaur (4 runs) , batting at number four, wanted to support her and she hit her very first ball for a four but got out on the very next ball as Kashvee Gautam got the better of her. MI were looking in trouble but Amelia Kerr provided the support to Sciver-Brunt which she needed and the two got involved in a partnership of 45 runs and ensured that the chase of 121 runs became easier. They took their chances from time to time and struck some impressive boundaries to never allow the required rate to climb. </p>
<p>Medium pace bowler Kashvee Gautam though added a temporary hault in the easy looking chase of MI as she sent Kerr back to the pavilion in the 15th over but by then, the damage had already been done. 32-year-old Sciver-Brunt completed her fifty but she couldn't stay till the end and was eventually sent back to the dugout in the 16th over. </p>
<p>But in the end, two boundaries from the duo of Sajeevan Sajana &amp; G Kamalini helped their team cross the finish line with 23 balls to spare. Medium Pacer Kashvee Gautam was the best Gujarat Giants bowler as she ended the game with figures of 2-15 to her name. Priya Mishra &amp; Tanuja Kanwar also chipped in with two &amp; one scalps respectively. </p>
<p>This win helped the Mumbai Indians to register their first win of the season and occupy the 2nd spot in the points table while the Giants on the other hand, suffered their second defeat in the current edition of the WPL and have dropped down to the 3rd spot.</p>
