Will Babar Azam Play Asia Cup 2025?

The Pakistan Cricket Team will be one of the favourites to win the Asia Cup 2025. But, since the last few months, they have been struggling to get going, and one of the major questions that is still there is will Babar Azam will play the Asia Cup or not? 

Babar Azam has been sidelined from Pakistan's T20I setup since the T20I series against South Africa in 2024. Following his poor form in the tournament, he, along with some other seniors, were sidelined with youngsters getting an opportunity. 

But with the Asia Cup 2025 around the corner, Pakistan seems unprepared as the young guns haven't shown great promise. Amid all this, there have been calls to include Babar Azam in the team for the Asia Cup as the tournament will be crucial, including a game against India.

Amid all this, the reports in Cricket Pakistan suggested that Babar Azam is in the mix to be picked in the team. This comes after injury ruled out Fakhar Zaman was ruled out of the T20I series and the ODI series against the West Indies. 

The reports claimed that Fakhar Zaman is expected to miss the Asia Cup 2025, and PCB has kept Babar Azam as a cover. However, his inclusion in the squad will depend on how he performs in the ODI series against the West Indies. 

Babar Azam, who often has been criticised for his poor strike rate, is the leading run-getter for Pakistan in the format. In the 128 games, he has slammed 4223 runs at an average of around 40 to go with three centuries. 

If he gets picked for the team, it will be a big boost for the team. The reports claimed that he will make a return to the T20I setup in the tri-series ahead of the Asia Cup 2025 against the UAE and the Afghanistan Cricket Team. 

The tri-series will be played from 29th August to 7th September. Following that Asia Cup will commence on 9th September. Pakistan are scheduled to play their first game against Oman on 12th September. After that, they will be in action against Pakistan on 14th September. In their last match of the league stage, they will take on the UAE on 17th September.
