Virat Kohli Breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s Record, Fastest to 28,000 International Runs | IND vs NZ 1st ODI 2026
Virat Kohli became the fastest batter to score 28,000 runs in international cricket, and he once again registered his name in history, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's record. Kohli achieved the historic milestone during the India vs New Zealand 1st ODI at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara on January 11, 2026.
Kohli reached this milestone in just 624 innings, and with this, he broke the record of Sachin Tendulkar, who has taken 644 innings to reach the 28,000 runs mark. The Former Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara is the third fastest to score 28,000 runs in international cricket.
IND vs NZ 1st ODI 2026: Kohli Back as Chase Master
New Zealand batted first and they put 300 runs on the scoreboard with a loss of 8 wickets. Kiwi openers Devon Conway and Henry Nicholls gave an excellent start to the team as they made a 117-run partnership for the first wicket. Conway scored 56 runs off 67 balls while Nicholls made 62 runs.
Despite having a good start, New Zealand lost momentum in the middle overs as they lost back-to-back wickets. However, Daryl Mitchell played a fantastic knock of 84 runs off 71 balls; no other batter stood with him, and New Zealand set a target of 301 runs to India.
