Travis Head SHOCK EXIT! Leaves India T20Is Midway to Prepare for Ashes

Australia has taken a massive call ahead of the upcoming Ashes series. Star Batter Travis Head has been released from the T20I squad against India, and he will not be a part of the remaining two T20I matches of the series. As per cricket.com.au, Head will now play the Sheffield Shield game for South Australia against Tasmania to prepare for Ashes 2025-26.

Travis Head has always been a key batter for the Australia Men’s Cricket Team in all three formats, and his absence will surely impact their batting department, but he has been given a free hand to choose whether he wants to play the T20I series or the Sheffield Shield. Later in this month, Ashes 2025-26 is set to start, and players want to prepare heavily for red-ball cricket before the series.

Why did Travis Head leave the India T20I Series?

Travis Head was part of the Australia squad for the five-match T20I series against India. Head had decent performance so far in the series, and he decided to withdraw from the last two T20Is to prepare for the Ashes. This decision shows Travis Head’s priority towards performing well in the Ashes.

He is set to play first-class red-ball games for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield as part of his preparation, which will help him regain his form and get used to test cricket before the important Ashes 2025-26 starts.

Head’s Performance in the ODI and T20I series against India.

Travis Head played both the ODI and T20I series against India; however, he has played only three matches in both series. Head scored only 65 runs in the 3 matches in the ODI series, whereas only 34 runs in the 3 matches in the T20I.

He wasn’t in good touch in recent times, and his role is very crucial in the Ashes. Head’s position in the middle-order strengthens Australia’s batting department. Head is known for his consistent performances and big knocks.

Hazlewood and Abbott also leave the T20I squad:

Not only is Travis Head leaving the side, Australian pacers Josh Hazlewood and Sean Abbott have also left the T20I series against India to play Sheffield Shield for New South Wales against Victoria at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

Ben Dwarshuis is expected to play in the fourth T20I, and Nathan Ellis will be playing the bowling line-up in the absence of star pacers for the remaining two T20I matches against India.
