IPL Points Table: Well, the IPL fans didn’t have to wait for long to get a thrilling contest in the ongoing TATA IPL 2024. KKR vs SRH turned out to be an insane contest of bat and ball. Though, in the first place, it looked like KKR’s one-sided game, things come that easily in this life, isn’t it? Following some nervy moments, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) eventually managed to jump over the rope against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Eden Gardens and bagged two crucial points in the TATA IPL Points Table.

The fixture had become more about Mitchell Starc vs Pat Cummins, the Aussies who broke the banks of IPL franchises during the auctions. With both of them in action, the limelight was always going to be theirs.

KKR made the first 200+ score of this season of the IPL, thanks to blitz innings off the blade of Andre Russell, who just monstrously 64 runs in 25 deliveries. Tormenting the bowlers was his cup of tea a few years ago, and it seems he has found that mojo again this year.

Besides Russell, KKR opener Phil Salt made a brilliant statement for himself after he was drafted into the side as a replacement for Jason Roy. The English opener scored 40-ball 54 in the opening game for KKR. Barring him, none of the top and middle-order batters could get going against SRH’s bowling lineup, which pushed them into a fix.

However, it was their lower order which bailed them out of a tricky situation. The likes of Ramandeep Singh (35 runs off 17 balls), Rinku Singh (23 runs off 15 balls) and Andre Russell (64 runs off 25 balls) joined forces to put a score of 208 runs in 20 overs.

The forgotten man of Team India, T Natarajan sprinkled his magic and scalped three wickets, while spinner Mayank Markande got two in his kitty.

A 208-run chase in the opening game wasn’t an easy task, but SRH somehow managed to reach closer to it. Their openers – Mayank Agarwal and Abhishek Sharma – did well to keep up the scoring rate as well as not lose the wickets. However, both of them were dismissed after being well set in the eighth over.

Contributions from the middle-order also came, but SRH required blazing innings to take them over the rope. Wickets kept falling and the required run rate kept mounting in the middle overs.

SRH required 80 runs off the last five overs with wicketkeeper batter Heinrich Klaasen and Abdul Samad in the middle. It looked a daunting task, but Klassen’s class innings made it look easy.

Klassen scored 63 runs off 29 deliveries bringing down the equation to 13 runs in the final over along with Shahbaz Ahmed.

The glovesman tonked Harshit Rana’s first delivery for a six in the final over, and the equation was simplified to just 7 runs off 5 deliveries. However, what unfolded after that was a courageous task from Rana.

The pacer gave away just two runs in his next five deliveries and scalped two wickets to take his side home against SRH. KKR won the contest by 5 runs against SRH at the Eden Gardens and bagged two crucial points in the IPL Points Table.
