TATA IPL Points Table: Rajasthan Royals (RR) registered their second consecutive win of the season after they defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 12 runs in match 09 of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. With the second win, RR continues to remain in the upper half of the TATA IPL Points Table.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) were put to bat first by Rishabh Pant’s Delhi Capitals (DC) on a slightly difficult pitch that had something for the bowlers, unlike what we saw in the last match between MI and SRH. The surface aided the pacers initially and then it looked a tad difficult to bat on when the spinners charged in.

The Royals were pushed into the backfoot right from the start of the innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler and skipper Sanju Samson couldn’t help themselves with big scores tonight as all of them struggled to get going. RR looked in an awkward position in the first 10 overs, where they could only score 57 runs and lost three big wickets.

However, somehow Riyan Parag and R Ashwin, who got a promotion, steadied the innings. Ashwin played a crucial part with his 19 balls 29 runs knock followed by Dhruv Jurel’s 20-run handy knock in 12 deliveries. Both the batters helped Riyan Parag settle in the middle before he exploded in the death overs.

Riyan Parag singlehandedly took RR’s total to 185 runs in 20 overs with his lion’s share contribution of unbeaten 84 runs in 45 deliveries. On the surface where everyone looked a bit uncomfortable and scratchy, Riyan Parag went on to smoke six maximums to go with seven fours in his magnificent innings.

While initially, it looked Delhi’s game, owing to their brilliant bowling exhibition, the momentum moved towards the home side as the first innings came to an end.

Delhi Capitals had a big score in front of them on a bit of a troubling surface, however, they kickstarted their hunt with a bang. Mitch Marsh set the tempo for the innings with his onslaught against Nandre Burger and Trent Boult in the second and third overs. The Aussie amassed 13 and 14 runs respectively in the two overs.

However, his mojo was short-lived after Nandre Burger knocked him over in his second over of the innings. In the fourth ball of the same over, Burger went on to trap Ricky Bhui as well and suddenly, DC were in a crunch situation.

David Warner and Rishabh Pant brought the innings back onto the track, but they too couldn’t stay till the end. Warner was dismissed one run shy of his well-deserved half-century while Yuzvendra Chahal got rid of Rishabh Pant.

Though the dismissals of Warner and Pant turned the game in its head, Axar Patel and Tristin Stubbs did exceedingly well to take it deep. Stubbs, especially, played a magnificent innings, but unfortunately, couldn’t take his side home. DC required 17 runs off the final over and they could only get five of those and lost the game by 12 runs.

The defeat meant that they stayed in the bottom half of the TATA IPL Points Table with no win in two matches. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals (RR) took the second spot in the latest standings.
