Delhi Capitals ropes in Ajit Agarkar as assistant coach for Tata IPL 2022: Former Indian speedster Ajit Agarkar is all set to take up the assistant coach?s role in the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) in the fifteenth edition of the tournament. Agarkar will be a key figure in Delhi?s coaching setup who will work closely with the head coach Ricky Ponting.



He will also be a part of the leadership group which comprise Ricky Ponting (head coach), Rishabh Pant (captain), Praveen Amre (batting coach) and James Hope (bowling coach).



Ajit Agarkar will straight away join the bubble of the Capitals once he completes his commentary commitments in upcoming India vs Sri Lanka matches for three T20Is and two tests. The Sri Lanka tour of India will end on March 16 with the pink ball test in Bangaluru.



?Agarkar and Capitals have sealed the deal. The announcement will be made soon. Agarkar will get into the bubble immediately after the Sri Lanka series,? a source told TOI.



His assignment with Delhi Capitals will be his first stint as the coach of any team. Agarkar drew curtains to his international career in 2013, though he last played his international matches way back in 2007.

Ajit Agarkar and Zaheer Khan are two of the most probable options for India to bring in as the mentor of the team.



Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals (DC) have done a fantastic job in picking quality players at the recently concluded IPL 2022 Auction. Capitals managed to fetch the services of David Warner, Shardul Thakur, Mitchell Marsh, Kuldeep Yadav, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and various others.

IND vs WI T20I Squad: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to announce IND vs WI T20I Squad in the coming week after the cricket board completes its long impending work of roping in the chief of selectors. Recently, Ajit Agarkar was appointed for the role of chief of selectors, which was vacant since February.



Although the BCCI had announced Test and ODI squads for the West Indies tour a few weeks ago, it withheld the decision to name the T20I squad.

The three masterminds of Indian cricket discussed Team India's squad composition for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, emphasising on Hardik Pandya's selection.



As per the report published in <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/sports/cricket/selectors-rahul-dravid-rohit-sharma-hardik-pandya-t20-world-cup-spot-9272583/">the Indian Express</a>, a sizable duration was dedicated to the discussion on Hardik Pandya's chances to head to the Caribbean and the USA for the upcoming T20 World Cup. 



It was, later, concluded that Hardik's chances of making it to the T20 World Cup squad purely lie on his bowling exploits in the ongoing IPL 2024. Bowling regularly and effectively will be a key for the MI skipper to seal a spot in the Indian T20I side.



So far, Hardik Pandya has bowled 11 overs in his six IPL 2024 outings for Mumbai Indians in which he has conceded runs at an expensive economy of 12 and scalped just three wickets.



Hardik's batting hasn't been encouraging either. He has managed the scores of 11, 24, 34, 39, 21* and 2 in the six outings for MI. Moreover, his captaincy has also been flawed.



The all-rounder brings balance to the squad with his bowling abilities, although, his batting skills have just been ordinary so to say. In fact, team India has a string of players who can offer better batting skills than Pandya does.



Moreover, the other fast-bowling all-rounder options were under discussion, however, the trio felt there weren't enough options to deliberate. CSK all-rounder Shivam Dube was under the eyes of the selectors, but unfortunately, he has only been used as an Impact Player by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Rohit Sharma has been a phenomenal opening batsman but youngsters Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal weren't in their best form in the TATA IPL 2024.



This led the selection panel to think about Virat Kohli as an opener in the Indian Team for the ICC Men?s T20 World Cup 2024. However, as per the reports, Shubman Gill will be the backup opener of the Indian Team in this tournament and Yashasvi Jaiswal is likely to not get added to the squad.?

Riyan Parag has been playing exceptional cricket in the TATA IPL 2024 for Rajasthan Royals as he is the second leading run-scorer of the tournament after Virat Kohli. If Riyan Parag continues the same performance throughout the tournament then it will be a huge benefit for the Indian Team in the T20 World Cup 2024.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Hardik Pandya needs to bowl regularly in IPL to get the chance in T20 World Cup 2024:</h2>



Hardik Pandya isn't playing good cricket in the TATA IPL 2024 either by bat or ball. Most importantly, he is not bowling regularly for Mumbai Indians in the TATA IPL 2024 therefore BCCI have informed him to bowl regularly in IPL to get added to the Indian Team for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.

T20 World Cup 2024: The Indian Squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 was out a couple of days back and Ajit Agarkar (Chief Selector) and skipper Rohit Sharma commented on the spin combination of the Indian Team in the T20 World Cup.

The Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and captain Rohit Sharma attended a press conference organized by BCCI on 2nd March. The press conference was held after the Indian Squad announcement for the upcoming T20I main event. 



The conference was rescheduled for 4:30 PM instead of its initial 4 PM start time. They responded to questions on the team's noteworthy picks and drops, such as Rinku and Gill's standing as reserve players, among other things.



<h4 class="wp-block-heading" id="on-rohits-bowling-in-t-20-world-cup">On Rohit's Bowling In T20 World Cup</h4>



If you have noticed, there is not a single off-spinner in the World Cup squad, and in a long tournament in the USA and West Indies, the pitches will dry which will assist the spinners more. With a similar reference, a reporter asked about the missing off-spinning option to which, Ajit Agarkar replied: "Hopefully the Captain can roll his arm over." The two smiled after the comment and Rohit Sharma said "Yes, I will Try." 



Rohit Sharma took the question and clarified the selection. He said "Something that we discussed a lot. We discussed whether to have an off-spinner or not. Washy hasn?t played a lot of cricket. And it was between Ash and Axar? it was like that. We thought that having 2 left-arm spinners and being doing well. "

"Ashwin hasn?t played much lately. Axar was in good form from 50 overs format when he played those matches against AUS. So he?s been bowling well for India. It gives us that left-handed option if we have to send someone in the middle. And of course, a very experienced player," he added.



<h4 class="wp-block-heading" id="on-virats-strike-rate">On Virat's Strike Rate</h4>



As soon as the reporter started talking about Virat Kohli's strike rate, the skipper smiled loud and Agarkar took the question. He said "We haven't been discussing Virat Kohli's strike rate at all. He has been performing really well in the IPL, no point overthinking."

"It was the toughest decision," said Ajit Agarkar. He added "It's got nothing to do with Rinku. We felt Rohit can have an extra spin option with two wrist spinners. He is in the reserves so that's how close he was and same thing will Gill."
