It’s time for Asia’s biggest tournament as all the Asian heavyweights will be going up against each other in the Asia Cup 2023. The tournament will be played from 30th August to 17th September.  Out of 13 games, 4 games will take place in Pakistan whereas 9 games will be played in Sri Lanka. It’ll be great preparation for all of them to prepare themselves for the World Cup and get their combination right.

Coming to the Indian team, there have been a lot of speculations about what squad will India name for the Asia Cup 2023 because the team isn’t settled till now with a few key players being out to be injured as well. There is a high possibility that the squad which will be named for the tournament might play World Cup as well. 

But to answer all this, newly appointed BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar along with skipper Rohit Sharma will be attending a press conference on Monday (21st August) at 1:30 PM to announce the Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2023. The duo will be attending a meeting first before naming the team. Head coach Rahul Dravid will also be part of that.

The Indian team also will be having a special camp ahead of the Asia Cup to prepare for the tournament. The team will be assembling in Bangalore at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and will be undergoing several sessions to get themselves read. 

The camp will be held from 24th August to 29th August and following that Indian team will be travelling to Sri Lanka to play the tournament. They will be opening their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on 2nd September in Kandy.

The reports also gave an update about the fitness of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer. The keeper-batter has attained his full fitness and will be available for the selection. Whereas Iyer has shown positive signs but the selection is not completely sure. He batted for 38 overs and fielded 50 overs in the practice game. 

If Shreyas Iyer isn’t deemed fit to be selected for the Asia Cup 2023, then BCCI is giving first preference to Suryakumar Yadav. It is also learned that talks related to the selection of Tilak Varma will also be happening as India is lacking a left-hander in the middle order.
