Breaking News: Suryakumar Yadav openly reveals why he didn’t shake hands with Pakistan players, says “we gave a proper reply”
The Indian Cricket Team skipper, Suryakumar Yadav, shared his take on why he and his team didn’t shake hands with Pakistan after their clash ended in the Asia Cup 2025. He openly mentioned that some things are above sportsmanship.
The Indian Cricket Team thumped the Pakistan Cricket Team by 7 wickets in their second game of the Asia Cup 2025. The match took place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. This was India’s second win in the tournament, and they almost booked a berth in the Super Four stage.
India, who were asked to field first, restricted Pakistan to just 127 runs. Kuldeep Yadav was the star with the ball as he grabbed three wickets, while Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah picked two wickets each. For Pakistan, Sahibzada Farhan was the top run-getter with his innings of 40.
In the chase, India made a mockery of the Pakistan bowlers. Abhishek Sharma (31) came out all guns blazing, hitting bowlers all over the park. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav (47*) and Tilak Varma (31) also played crucial roles as India chased the target with seven wickets in hand.
Suryakumar Yadav, who didn't shake hands with Salman Agha at the toss, hit the winning runs as he hit a six to end the match. However, what he did after that was something that caught the attention of many fans and pundits.
Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube walked straight away without shaking hands with the Pakistan stand. Even though the opposition kept waiting, they walked straight into the dressing room and celebrated the win.
I think a few things in life are ahead of sportsman spirit also - Suryakumar Yadav
After the win, Suryakumar Yadav attended the post-match press conference. He was asked about not shaking hands with Pakistani players. And the Indian captain didn’t shy away from saying that they gave a proper reply to Pakistan.
“See, our government and the BCCI were aligned together. The rest, we came and took a call, and I think we came here just to play the game, and we gave a proper reply,” said Surya
Suryakumar Yadav was also asked if not shaking hands was against the sportsman's spirit. However, replying to this, he said:
Sir, I think a few things in life are ahead of sportsman spirit also. And I have already answered it and said it at the presentation as well that we actually stand with all the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, and we stand with their families also, expressing our solidarity.
“We also dedicated this win to our brave armed forces who took part in Operation Sindoor and continue to inspire us all. We will inspire them as well whenever given an opportunity.”
