SRH files complaint about Kane Williamson’s controversial catch out by third umpire in IPL 2022: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have officially lodged a complaint to the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) officials about their skipper Kane Williamson’s controversial catch out in their opening game of the season against Rajasthan Royals.

Cricbuzz reported that Sunrisers Hyderabad has protested the third umpire’s decision to give Kane Williamson catch out at the Maharashtra Cricket Association International Stadium on March 29.

The incident took place during the fourth ball of the second over in SRH’s innings when Prasidh Krishna delivered a 136 kmph delivery. Kane Williamson poked at the delivery as it took the edge and flew towards the wicketkeeper’s hand. Sanju Samson dived to his right to take the one-handed stunner, however, the ball popped out of Samson’s glove and went towards Devdutt Padikkal, who was at the slip. Padikkal, at the first slip, dived forward to complete the catch and eventually grabbed the ball.

However, the main concern for the umpires was whether the ball went straight in the hands of Padikkal or it fell inches short. The on-field umpires referred it to the third umpire, who after multiple replays, decided to give the decision in the favour of the fielding team, giving Kane Williamson out.

SRH’s coach has written to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the entire process has been followed to lodge the official complaint.

“Yes, we’ve written to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The procedure is that the coach has to write and the process has been followed,” a franchise official from Hyderabad was quoted as saying in the report.

The details about the complaint were also mentioned in the captain’s report which is given to the match referee after the completion of the game.

SRH coach Tom Moody was shocked to see Kane Williamson given out in that fashion and talked about that following the end of the match.

“We were very surprised that it was given out, particularly when we saw the replay. I can understand the on-field umpires taking it upstairs, and when that happened and we saw the evidence. We’re certainly not umpires, but it looked pretty clear to us what the decision was.” Moody told in the post-match press conference.

Sunrisers Hyderabad lost that game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) by huge 61 runs. SRH will now be looking to make a comeback in its second game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 4 in the DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai.
