Rohit Sharma Returns as ODI Captain? Hardik & Bumrah Ruled Out – Big Call by BCCI

Rohit Sharma is likely to return as India’s ODI captain as some of the key players are ruled out due to injuries. The India National Cricket Team is all set to play the three-match ODI series against South Africa, which is scheduled to start from November 30, 2025. The Two Legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be back in action in this ODI series against South Africa.

Rohit Sharma performed exceptionally in the ODI series against Australia, and now, Rohit and Virat will be looking to continue the same form against South Africa. All three ODIs will be played in India, which is quite news for Indian fans as they can watch their favourites live from the stadium.

Shubman Gill Likely to Miss ODIs due to neck injury:

Recently, Shubman Gill was announced as the new captain of India's ODI Cricket Team, replacing Rohit Sharma. But Gill is unlikely to play in the three-match ODI series due to a neck injury that happened during the IND vs SA 1st Test in Kolkata.

Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya are not available due to Workload management:

As per the reports, India’s star all-rounder Hardik Pandya is still recovering from a quadriceps injury which happened during the Asia Cup 2025 in Dubai. Since then, Hardik has not played any cricket, and he is currently undergoing rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah is likely to miss the ODI series due to workload management. Bumrah performed exceptionally in the first test match against South Africa and will also be part of the second test. There are lots of important series and the T20 World Cup 2026 in the upcoming months so, BCCI wants Bumrah fully fit and fresh.

Will Rohit Sharma Return as ODI Captain?

With Gill, Hardik and Bumrah are unlikely to play the ODI series against South Africa therefore the chances are quite high that the BCCI might bring back Rohit as India’s ODI captain for the South Africa series.

But some reports say that Rohit might not accept the captaincy and KL Rahul is likely to lead the ODI team. However, the chances are quite low that Rahul will be leading the Indian Team.
