Rohit Sharma kicked aside! Shreyas Iyer set to become ODI captain

After Shreyas Iyer was dropped for the Asia Cup 2025, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) faced a lot of criticism for dropping a batter who has done the bulk of the scoring for the team in all three formats. 

In what has been the latest development, as per the reports in Dainik Jagran, it is learned that Shreyas Iyer is all set to replace Rohit Sharma as the ODI captain of the team. Also, Shubman Gill will be taking over the reins of the T20I team from Suryakumar Yadav. 

The Indian Cricket Team is all set to see a massive captaincy overhaul. After Shreyas Iyer was dropped for the Asia Cup 2025, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) faced a lot of criticism for dropping a batter who has done the bulk of the scoring for the team in all three formats. 

However, days after that, Shreyas Iyer received one of the biggest positives. The batter will be given the leadership after the BCCI discusses the future of Rohit Sharma with the current captain. The team management feels that Iyer can lead the team for a long time. 

Shreyas Iyer has been one of the best captains in world cricket. He won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with Mumbai as a captain and also led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Not only this, he took the Punjab Kings (PBKS) to the final of the league. 

Shubman Gill set to become T20I skipper soon 

The reports also added that Shubman Gill will be made the T20I skipper soon. After Suryakumar Yadav's tenure as the skipper ends, the youngsters will be given the leadership in the shortest format of the game. 

Shubman Gill was included in the Indian team for the Asia Cup 2025. He was appointed as the vice-captain of the team. He was given the leadership role as the team management wants to groom him for the future.
