With no captain and vice-captain for the South Africa ODIs, India doesn’t have any choice. The reports claimed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are looking in at the options and Rishabh Pant along with KL Rahul are being looked at.

KL Rahul has captained India for a while in the past but with Rishabh Pant being in the leadership group of the test, he is expected to take the role. This means that he will be there in the XI and might bat at four in the series in the absence of Shreyas Iyer.

Rishabh Pant wasn’t part of the Indian squad for the ODI series against Australia due to injury. He, however, was part of the team which won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. But, he didn’t get an opportunity to play as KL Rahul was the first-choice keeper in the XI.

The Indian squad for the ODI and the T20I series against South Africa will be announced soon. It remains to be seen who will lead India in the three-match ODI series.
